I agree that playing hard songs and improving reading is generally the most important thing, but it helps to go back to easier songs and see how you're doing once in a while.

When you start to AAA stuff, go through a bunch of easier stuff to just sort of solidify your grasp on timing and boost confidence. Managing your general attitude and outlook on the game is actually more important than a lot of people think, and can actually help your play.

I did however develop a completely "faith in yourself" based method of playing.

I turned off the Judgment Display, and the one that shows up on the right side by the video.

Then i proceeded to tape construction paper over the life bar, max combo display and money score displays, then turned off the score chart cause i had it on earlier.

Now he doesnt even know how good/bad he is doing, what grade he's getting or if he's still full comboing it.

Yeah stop doing all of this now. It won't help at all.

The only thing that can help (and it depends on how hard a song is to you) is to cover the groove gauge so that you wont notice if you're passing a song near the end and choke up.
