Default Songs good to practice?

I was playing a little the other day and started to wonder if those of you who've been playing for a LONG time could help...

What songs and difficulty would you recommend playing multiple time to help improve the following things?

1. Chords
2. Chord, note, chord, note, etc... patterns
3. TT + note/chord

Obviously, playing all the songs will help improve all aspects of play, but my biggest issue is those 3 things above. But I don't have ANY idea which songs to play (on random) in order to get used to the feel of those things. Thoughts?

I appreciate the help!

the best way to improve at a song is to play that song as many times as needed until you're good at it
some songs are better than others for improving in general though. for example, KEY [A] is good for improving stamina for fast 8th chords, INORI [A] is good for improving consistency at long repetitive 16th streams (try it on S-Random too for more variety) and AA [A] is good for improving at dense clusters of notes (although it's a very difficult song to read, once you can read it it's great practice. erasermotor phantom, scripted connection, moon_child and kagonotori are probably good songs to work up to AA with)
V [H] or [A] is a good song to practice to get better at 16th chords, or Distress 7k if you need something slower. V on S-Random is good for learning dual 16th streams, but you might want to activate Samurai S-Random since jackhammers are annoying (especially on V [A], measure 61 is an instant plummet to 2% for me while using S-Random)

finally, if you need practice on scratching, try any of the following: rakuen, I am beatmania, wonder bullfighter, halfway of promise, one or eight, SCREAM SQUAD, debtty daddy, kecak, just a little smile, gigadelic [A]

Don't forget Checking You Out for scratching :P

When I was starting out I would generally just keep playing songs I liked until I could pass them. Murmur Twins is probably good for something. Any more I'll just try to beat whatever I can't.

I wouldn't worry too much about drilling specific things, in general the more you play the better you'll get. Often times I'll play one song constantly for days and not be able to pass it, and then after a month or two of not playing the game at all, I'll sit down and pass it on one of my first tries. I think taking breaks gives you a chance to like, reset and approach the song differently. With a lot of things that require a lot of practice, you'll end up drilling the wrong action and get into bad habits the more you try and fail to do something, you have a chance to unlearn those habits if you take a break.

Sorry if I'm not making sense lol

Forgive me for sounding like such a noob (well, I am... sorta) but what is Samurai S-Random and how do you activate it?

samurai s-random is a mod that's identical to s-random except it intentionally avoids creating "jackhammer" patterns (two or more 16ths in a row on the same key in a 130+ bpm song, two or more 8ths in a row on the same key in a 250+ bpm song, etc) it doesn't save records on any game, even Happy Sky. it's activated by having S-Random on in 10th, RED or HS, and then highlighting a new song that starts with s and hitting select, then do the same for three songs starting with r, a and n in that order. if you hear a sample from 1st samurai then you did it right. in happy sky there's no song that begins with "n" so just go by the artist's first letter
kind of a broken mod, I almost full comboed innocent walls [A] with it

I'm just thinking happy sky here.

1. DAWN's the best I can think of for exclusive 2 or 3 note chord practive
2. a LOT of songs have a chord-1-chord-1-chord pattern...
3. V, Poodle, BLUE MIRAGE

There's a lot more, but I'm glad you don't seem to have a problem with fast note streams.

Make sure to play Para Para Paradise [a] to practice glissandos.

And DXY! [a] because the climax has the fastest notes you will ever hit in IIDX.

Streams don't really get me at all...but funny you mention BLUE MIRAGE. That song is brutal...I can't pass it yet. Then again, I haven't played in over a week. Whoever it was that suggested time off is SO right - I stopped playing for a few months, came back, and within about a week, I was beyond my previous ability significantly.

BLUE MIRAGE is one of those songs that drilling will not get you anywhere with. I kinda wish I didn't mention it; you should just approach it every now and then with a different approach, and you never know when it'll just click, like Deca said.

To dispute another thing that's been said, I would discourage excessive repetitive practice of a single song. First, it's exhausting for those with low stamina, it becomes a little hard to focus, and when your EX score isn't consistently moving up like you think it should, you'll get frustrated and lose your focus even more.

Unless you like a particular song, I would jump around your frontiers and just see what you can chip away at. You'll get better without even realizing it.

Do you really think I'll get better this way? I play Hard only, since I have this weird thing about only being able to truely clear the song if you can Hard Clear it...

Do you think BLUE MIRAGE is a harder song than it says it is? I'm talking L7 here...I think it's marked a 5, but I can pass most of the other 5's and 6-7's on L7. Or do I just suck, haha.

I don't know, like - I'll play a bunch of songs from various mixes even, and I just feel like I'm at ANOTHER standstill. I was stuck at 5's for a LOOOOONG time, and here I'm passing them no trouble, up to 6's and 7's, but I'm starting to find that those key elements that I mentioned in the first post are REALLY holding me back since I can't do them consistently ever.

Did you ever play GOLD at the arcade by chance? I played Bloody Tears L7 in the arcade, and the chord, note, chord, note etc...part REALLY tripped me up. I managed to pass it, but it may have been a fluke due to the rush of the arcade! (that was back when it was at BZ for testing)

lol - I feel like I'm just rambling right now because I'm at work and just thinking about how much I feel like I suck at IIDX. Hopefully getting my IIDASC will motivate me to get hardcore about it again.

In HS, do scores save with it? I want to try this when I get home.

I'm only playing 6-7's, but I can give you what I did...

Play Random or Hard Random on 4's and 5's. You'll get really good at patterns you're not used to. I used to only play Hard Random. I went back to non-random, but after I can pass all the 5's and get to my 6/7 wall, I'll go back to playing 5's on Hard Random. That's my only suggestion at this point.
