If not - new IIDX
If yes - new PS2 | My question is this: he has already mod'd his PS2, meaning he is willing to open it up. Why not offer the ability to fix the PS2 instead of looking for a new one?
Specifically: can anyone figure out what would be the solution to the "yes" option in above quote. Would there have to be a laser swap? Or would adjusting the laser/ general cleaning with qtip/air can work? Given the fact that PS3 are now not backwards compatible, we are gonna have to learn to be PS2 savvy/hoards to keep these old styles working. | |

If canned air or Qtips don't work, your best bet is to buy a new laser assembly.

The only thing activating the disk brake is a small piece of plastic attached to the inside of the lid, no sensors cause the brake to trigger. Just jam a bit of tissue or whatever into it so it doesn't grind against your disk while your lid is open.

That's why you don't want the brake wearing the edge of your disk out or putting strain on the spindle XD

Example: in BMUS, if I open the tray at the song select screen, when I select the song with the tray open, the disc won't spin/load. I'm just wondering which sensor I need to fiddle with.

There's a little guide HERE just to get you to know the parts.
If you've done that... I really don't know what's up, make sure the brake isn't physically stopping the disk, and check the both the sensors again. It might be a good idea if you test it before you close the console back up. (run it without the top assembly fitted)

I'll try that out, I'm thinking it's the topside sensor though.

What's causing the disc brake to stay engaged? It doesn't appear to be a mechanical function, because when I close the lid or push the disc brake back, the disc spins fine and loads the game fine.
What's going on? Do I need to tape back the brake? EDIT: I solved the problem. I'm a freaking idiot, and just got what you said above about it being mechanical. The disc won't spin while the tray is open because... well, the tray is open. XD
Is that right?
