Like said above i agree that it was successful unlike beatmania (due to lack of familiarity) was not successful. But comparing this to guitar hero to a new person i guess is kind of understandable but to me thats like comparing cartoon's and anime. You may just look at it and it may seem the same but you never would take the time to really know its differences.
And:
Ive been hearing rumor of a possible release of DJ hero by you know who. Now think about it once i try to introduce beatmania to people they are gonna say its a rip off of DJ hero or something like that which is retarded. (even though i would love konami to sue for such a thing)

It's hard to change the mentality of some people when they've already been severely influenced by it.

Guess there's nothing much we can do about it (except probably through convincing)

Yet even so, you can't "force" them to immediately change their minds.

P.S.
Though on an off-topic note

I still hate Rock Band with a burning passion.

Gawd I wish Konami would continue their lawsuit against Activision and MTV

Well like, I don't think people are understanding that a lot of other people quite frankly don't know about other rhythm games.

They might not be rude or ignorant when comparing to Guitar Hero, but they just simply don't know.

If you play a 8* and they think you have cat like reflexes.

Also generic comments about it being like Guitar Hero and the general not coming out in the UK ever about it.

I mean I know quite a few people in the US who know about beatmania at least, none in the UK cept one.

Usually I just don't bother introducing people, turn off the PS2 and load a fightan game.

i always hate having to explain the disconnect between the song genres as iidx calls them and what their understanding of the genres are

it wouldnt be so bad if people didnt look down on iidx after finding out that what iidx calls house isnt what they call house music

or people who scoff at drunk monky and iidx itself after that because 145bpm isnt the right speed for true minimal and crap like that

the more of music snobs people are the worse it gets

yeah i get it youre so fucking smart and know so much about music shut the fuck up already

Its almost probably said above alot is just that mostly everything is compared to guitar hero. And it does kinda make me mad that they may say that maybe due to ignorance. but when they use that ignorance and refuse to see the difference or they think its too hard and attempt not to play such a fun game its nerve racking. But I have had those few who love music try and play IIDX and thought it was pretty amazing. Others just stick to guitar hero cause its more americanized or easier cause they refuse to extend their music boundries and stay with whats in "fad."

If DJ Hero ever comes out and people start saying Beatmania is a rip off of that game I'm gonna slap everyone who says that in the face and shove a -=-=- in their -=-=-.

In other words, Beatmania shouldn't be put down while being compared to ANYTHING D: It's fine that Beatmania is compared to other games as everyone compares what they're most familiar with, but if Beatmania is being put down because of music tastes or just "OMG IT'S TOO HARD" that's a different story.

There's PLENTY of different types of music in Beatmania and difficulties are never easy to pass through.

If that's the kind of people who see Beatmania like that, then screw them. We don't need those kind of people playing Beatmania anyways.

Speech. We had to give a demonstration speech on something. AT 1st I was thinking DDR, but I figured everyone knew how to play DDR.

I don't get mad when someone compares IIDX to GH (unless it's a negative comparison), but thinking IIDX is a rip-off to GH is just plain stupid.

Yup (this is true)

In fact they already made it public a few days ago (I think Activision did so).

Personally though

I don't care about it (as well as with any other "xxx HERO" that they want to come up with).

Besides

The matter is way off-topic so there doesn't seem much point talking about it any further (as the mods/admins may note tolerate such discussion here).

P.S.
However, as I stated before: "If people continue to be ignorant about such things (even after you've exposed the truth to the them), then so be it for them."

It will be their fault if they miss out on what we experience here in BM IIDX

Other than the "IIDX is a GH Ripoff" comments by noobs, there are some who would say "IIDX is a DJ Max/O2jam ripoff" or something like that. (that is based from my experiences but some of you might have already experienced that.)

Man, I guess I will get in here before the lock, but it is only natural for people to make comparisons between new things and things they are comfortable with... Fear of the unknown...

All of us here agree that IIDX is pretty different to guitar hero, but like someone else said, it is fair enough to compare two games which both require you to press buttons in time to music.

For example, I am a metalhead and can clearly see that there are many genres of metal within metal. Try explaining that to my parents though and they would put metal together in one single group, even though I know that early 70's "metal" like Deep Purple is considered pretty tame and a long way away to modern extreme death metal like Dimmu Borgir for example!

People like us know the ins and outs of the music genre as we are fans of the ultimate music game, albeit one of the most niche music games. This means that we have to overlook the opinions of people who think that IIDX is a Guitar Hero rip-off or is shit in comparison as they simply do not know any better.
The slightly politically incorrect statment that some opinions hold more weight than others is probably pretty valid here.

By the way, this argument is kind of old anyway, it began right when Beatmania US was released and some review threw it away as a Guitar Hero clone.

Lastly, it doesn't matter how hard you try to get other people into something like IIDX, it rarely works. Most people are not in to this sort of gaming unfortunately. If you look at Japanese society, they generally still enjoy the arcade style games where people compete for high scores because that is how they look at gaming (among other things).
If you look at western games and western attitues towards gaming there is a high emphasis on game completion by getting to the end of an adventure or something, not repeating something over and over again to improve your score or master something.

Guitar Hero sucks, but if people want to play it, let them go ahead, and if they are not interested in IIDX then there is no need to get angry about it. Some of us just know better!
