Default Troubles with the IIDX ASC

So I've had my asc for about two years now and I'm starting to get some problems with my turntable. It's registering double scratches if I push hard enough, which is practically at normal force, or sometimes it doesn't register at all. I've taken a look at the innards of the turntable and I don't think I see anything wrong, except that there's a lot of chalk on the plastic discs inside the TT. I am wondering if the chalky substance has anything to do with the functionality of the turntable.

thanks for your help

I've been told that it (the chalky substance) can affect functionality over a long period of time. Cleaning it should fix whatever problems you may be having. I haven't bothered opening mine up, but a good friend of mine keeps on insisting that i'll need to do so sooner or later.

I always bust mine open a few times a year to take it apart and swipe down all the surfaces with light cleaner on Q-tips. Keeps the keys gunk free and the turntable running smooth. Mine makes a really odd revving noise if you intentionally spin it hard, but I don't know if it's indicative of a problem since it doesn't affect regular gameplay at all. Just give it a good wipe down and see if it helps at all.

The advice given is very true as one of my friends has also had this problem and fixed it with q-tips.

I have cleaned out most of the chalk in the turntable, but I'm not totally certain that the problem is fixed. I'm starting to think that the receiver that registers the scratches could be a little worn down.

I started to have this problem a while ago, and all it took was a cleaning. I forget offhand (and don't want to open it); is there a screw that's holding the turntable in place, something you can loosen to make it less tense? There was a screw like this for the 5key ASCII tables, and I've had to fidget with that before.

Otherwise I guess keep you should keep cleaning it? Don't think the sensor is something that wears out.

Why would you use q-tips? I don't understand.

I just douse the whole thing in water then rub it clean with a towel/cloth. But it doesn't really effect the performance very much at all, if any. :/ ... unless you have so much that it's like completely coated... then it definitely would. Just take out the plastic discs, put run water over them, and use your fingers/finger nails/cloth/towels to rub it until it's clear again.

I actually put petroleum jelly on the axle of my konami controller and it removed that loud revving noise when I turned the TT.

Yeah but it also would cause it to spin enough so that if you are playing a scratch heavy song, if you'd accidently try to up+scratch twice in a row (say 5.1.1. another-esque), you'd miss them. That's why I would not recommend doing something like that. I used to use wax paper in my TT, but not anymore... I took it out, and modded it with material cut out from a manilla envelope and now it performs just how I like it to.

Buy a new IIDA.

LOL just kidding. Cleaning sounds like the solution in this thread. Otherwise the poor thing is dying.

Clean it, and experiment with inserting various materials and tightness to the turn table screw until it fits your liking.
