trying to get original beatmania working on ps2

I have a fliptop fat ps2 and I was wondering how to get the original beatmania loaded on it and if the append discs will work. I've tried swapmagic and it doesn't work. Someone suggested action replay. So I got an AR max for ps2 and it doesn't work either. Can someone help me out? I want to play hell scaper so bad but I don't want to buy a ps1.

just put a normal playstation in the system while your on browser. Wait for it to show the disc, but dont click on it! Open the flip top, and while the disc is spinning, quickly remove it and put the other game (beatmania) into the PS2. Tap X, and the game should load.

I do this on my slim PS2, I am almost positive it works on a fliptop PS2.

Beware.

Some archaic versions of fliptop (or any old-fashion modding proceedure) may render the use of PS1 discs in the console as obsolete.

Same thing goes for DVD movies (my modded PS2 can't even play movies)

Granted, that shouldn't be a problem at all in this day of age.

PSX can read both PS1 and PS2 games. There's no such thing as a PSX game...

He's probably referring to the PS1, in which PSX was its old abbreviated form.

Did PS1 even implement region coding for its CD game discs?

If so, then I can't see why it wouldn't work on a PS2 (unmodded).

Unless I'm missing something of course....

Yeah, all PS1 games are region protected, only way to play different region PS1 games on PS2 is having one modded

Use a Gameshark Lite or similar PS1 cheat disc as a swap disc for PS1 games.

Will any ps1 gameshark work? Cause I'm about to order one from amazon.com. Also, Omega, your method didn't work for me. It got the the ps1 emblem and noise but just stayed there. I tried waiting a good 5 minutes.

Not if it has a dongle. If it's just a disc it will work fine.

I remember back in the day when I played Beatmania and various other Japanese games on my PS1, I used Dragon Hacker (I think that was the name) It worked pretty good, I'm not sure if it's still around or not.

okay so I got that gameshark lite. It was just a disk to ps1. I popped it in and tried to boot beatmania and all I got was a blank screen. I'm starting to get pretty pissed. Someone tell me what I'm doing wrong.

You need a PlayStation, I'm pretty sure the above techniques won't work on PS2 hardware, though I could be wrong.

No, it works on a PS2, but you need a flip top/swap card/some other similar modification.

A slim PS2 is NOT the same as a flip top modded PS2.

EDIT: I know the TC has a fat PS2 with a flip top mod, I'm just clarifying for others that may not be familiar with flip tops.

EDIT 2: Step-by-step instructions:

Just to make sure you're doing it right

1. Pop in the Gameshark Lite, go to the cheats menu, choose to start the game without cheats.
2. When it tells you to replace the Gameshark Lite disc with the game disc, open the flip top, take out the Gameshark Lite, and put in Beatmania. Then (obviously) close the cover.
3. Press X (or whatever) and the game should start
