The PS3 is coming... Sony promises us a region free system. (Meaning we can play all of our favorite imported bemani games.) But... If you think about it there is a downside to all of this. Where in the hell are we going to plug our controllers.? Via USB? or would they make a new Bluetooth IIDX controller? your thoughts?

Good question actually - I've had several friends think of this as well.

Several things come to mind actually. Some believe that Konami will keep releasing them on PS2, since the PS3 would provide no real improvements besides perhaps more disk space. Moreover, any sort of wireless IIDX controller would introduce the possibility of lag into gaming - a scenario noone worth his weight in AAA's would measurably agree to.

Others believe that an upgrade to PS3 would/will occur. They would release larger songlists, more along the way the AC cabinets do it - a large list from all previous styles - and upgrade the graphics a bit. If this happens though, Konami would likely wait - since the install base of the PS3 would be dismally small by the time the next one is released (April/June I'm thinking) to advertise any significant sales - so if this did happen, I wouldn't expect to see a PS3 version until GOLD at the earliest.

I would think that Konami would keep releasing them on PS2, but provide some sort of PS2 -> USB connector so that you could play it on the PS3. (Or make us get one, as is the case most of the time anyway.)

Of course, the increased disk space applicable to the BD-ROM format would up the possibility of simply huge songlists - but wether or not Konami would take advantage of that remains to be seen.

That being said, the sky's the limit - but I'm thinking Konami will stay the more consevative route.

Until we know more information, all that can be said with certainty is that the PS3 is region free only for PS3 games.

That being said, the answer to what will happen to the IIDX CS series once the PS3 comes out is: nothing. IIDX games are special little pieces of software which Konami entrusts its development by their programming school graduates and are purchased by no more than 30,000 people with each release. Moving the series to PS3 would do nothing but lower the already dismal sales of the new games. And forget about them doing something beneficial for us like having all of the AC songs on a Blu-Ray disc: if they did that, why would people go to the arcades to play IIDX anymore?

All anyone needs to remember is that Beatmania 6th Mix & Core Remix PS1 came out several months after the PS2 launched.

Well, you can look here: http://www.rgcanada.com/viewtopic.php?t=4008 and see what others think. I personally think (and hope) that IIDX won't transition to the PS3 system. I mean, new PS2 games are still being made even today. I don't see why IIDX would rush into the new system.

If they decided to release IIDX on ps3 i wouldn't mind a larger songlist, and possibly some sort of internet ranking type mode? o_O Since (i think) ps3 will have some sort of build in wireless router of some sort to connect to the internet.

Nice to point that out, I never would have thought about that... But not only games but peripheral wise... you think Konami has a plan.. (so japanese gamers could at least play their CS verions on the jp system?)

Well, you're going to have to keep hoping for a LONG time, because that's never going to happen.

i Dont think it will any time soon.. See there is a differnece between DDR and IIDX, the learning curve is what is keeping IIDX alive... For instance, if you play DDR for a few years, there is somethign wrong with you if you can't play heavy songs.. lol (unless you're handicapped and cant do anythign about it.) But other than that, I dont see a foreclosure on the series anytime soon seeing that DDR has died in Japan and every iteration of IIDX gets harder and harder as they progress with each style. Also, If you think about it DDR came out in the US around 2000 with the orignal (correct me if I'm wrong wiht the date) but the whole DDR fever didn't catch on until the US version of MAx was released. Just maybe (and i know this is a bold statement) IIDX has another life here. as did for DDR. Its something to think about.

As much as I'd like to believe it, that's most probably untrue. Sooner or latar, the series will run its course. Hopefully, I'll be long gone before this day arrives, though.

stop scaring me! i do think the series will come to an end though too hopefully it will go up to IIDX40 or something silly like that.

I dont know whats going to happen about IIDX on ps3 though. if they release a wireless IIDX controller, wouldnt it have a tiny bit of lag from the signal?

The PS2's lifespan will be for at least another few years. There's still a lot of good games coming out for it(God of War 2), and Sony will be cashing from it as Microsoft does not give a shit about the original xbox anymore, and sony fills up that gap of people who want a cheap system with a lot of games. At the moment I don't think we need to worry about IIDX.

I also would not be suprised if we could connect a controller to the PS3 through USB...considering it supports keyboards and the like. There's also a USB accessory that transfers PS2 saves to the PS3 harddrive coming out at the same time as the console.

Pelican is in the works of a ps2 controller>ps3 controller adpater. It going to plug in via USB obivously.

http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=802566

I don't know if Sony is doing an offical one as of yet .

As far as IIDX in genreal. I agree IIDX will probbaly just stay on the ps2 untill it dies out . Simply because konami doesn't make enough revenue off it to port it over to the PS3. Now pop'n, that may be differnt. Pop'n sells better then IIDX CS wise. Konami may attempt a PS3 release of pop'n, because the revenue is there, after the ps2 is phased out.

I also want to say one thing, I know some people are all anti-next gen and will say Konami will never do this or that. Keep in mind the x360 is geting GHII with a totally custom USB controller. Do you think RO had to create that for free? no they had to make new controllers for that system. The same will be for the PS3 and other system if konami tries to put bemani on them. There is no way of avoiding it, new controllers will be needed.
