Why do you keep playing IIDX?

Okay, simple thread/discussion. What keeps you coming back for more and more and getting better and better at beatmania IIDX?

Is it the music?
Is it the difficulty?
Is it the gameplay?
Is it the style of the game?

For me, it's all of the above. I love the music and I love how every time I play I get a tiny bit better. +10 EX Score looks like not very much but it all adds up until you can start clearing the next difficulty level, or that song that was giving you huge grief last week. The gameplay is really fun too just because of how simple it is but yet can be very deep if you want it to be. The style of the game just fits in really well with the style of music and the simplicity of gameplay, and like the gameplay it can be as deep or as shallow as you want it to be.

I love the feeling of improvement, even if it's just a bit. The music is also another factor. It's like I grew up listening to this music, since my first music game was introduced to me in like 1st grade.

And I also like the community (arcade). Get to meet cool people who are into bemani ish as well :].

When I started playing 2dx and looked at vjarmy, I told myself I was going to be one of the best players in the US, like top 5 or 10 at least.

I'm not yet.

It's not a great reason, as it makes me get down on myself too much. I do really enjoy the feeling of accomplishment when clearing a new song, it gets better the higher up you go.

I don't get as psyched on AAAs. I never really feel like I'm working for them, either I can do it or I can't.

I'm being held against my will typing up fortune cookie fortunes on a comically small typewriter. In my off hours I'm forced into a cell no bigger than an airplane lavatory and forced to train my dexterity on this god forsaken game until I'm gassed to sleep every night at 3am.

Getting a high combo gives a sense of accomplishment, for some reason. I love it when I chained my first 300 combo I was like "oh yeah" then I broke it and failed the song. xD

The feeling that you're getting up higher, I used to have difficulties with Lv4 and now I can play most 6s and 2-3 lv7/8s. Lv10+ seems impossible to me still though, seriously...

But I'm not getting discouraged!!! I want to finish some stuff on Anothers levels, or even hyper cause most things I play are still Normal.

Oh, and the music is pretty awesome although I only have IIDX Gold.

My reason, is not only the challenge, but the big part of it is the music. Such a great variety, and I will continue to play for years to come. And from the looks of it, IIDX is doing well in Japan, and will continue the franchise, and I look forward to the next installment. I'm also getting a lot better, and would love to move up even more, possibly to the levels of legendary IIDX players in japan like DJ DOLCE and DJ QUASAR.

Apart from the soundtack I like to play IIDX for the challenge. It's just so thrilling when you finally clear that song that's been kicking your ass since what seems to be forever (Golden Cross and Go Beyond come to mind)

it's also fun showing this game to other people and blow their minds playing a lvl 10 song.

I just cleared Sense 2007[h] and damn near shit my pants. Moments of "holy fuck I just did THAT?!" keep me coming back to this game.

I keep playing because I like the music, I think it's cool that the music is new for every version and is made specifically for the series. The difficulty is another big factor, there aren't too many games left anymore that can repeatedly knock your ass into the ground, and you keep coming back for more. :P
