to explain more clearly:

let's say you have a song that is too slow for you on HS3.5, but too fast on HS4. a small amount of sudden+ used can simulate a smaller playing area, thus creating the illusion that it is faster on 3.5 than it is (as it travels through the entire viewable area slightly faster).

It's especially useful for very slow songs that, even on HS5, aren't fast enough.

I personally don't use it much as it doesn't help me, but a lot of other players find it very helpful

Also I find that having a lowish speed (around 1.5/2.5) and Sudden+ around 400/500, it makes turntable patterns a lot easier to distinguish.

For example. Ganymede is the only song I've had to use Sudden+ on.

Or you can use it for fun.

I wouldn't say it's a guaranteed clear, but at the very least you can bs the scales.

I use sudden+ to drop the high-speed so the notes appear more clearly as they scroll. If you try to just keep upping the high-speed the notes may take as long to clear the visible area, but they kind of blur and it's harder to find a place for your eyes to settle.

That probably doesn't make sense, but after you've played for a while sudden+ almost becomes a necessity.

100% true. I can't play without sudden+. if i play 10th style i at least put on sudden. works enough.

Psh. Speed mods are for pussies. True hardcorefans use
normal hard hidden sudden random as thier default setting.

Seriously, though. I can AA stuff like Tell Me more... and Endless Summer Story only with Sudden + and 3.5... otherwise on a good day can get a C

I always used Sudden+ to give me less note viewing space.
Therefore, less notes, easier brain processing, reading, and reacting.

*shrug
I thought everyone did that.

I am a HIGH-SPEED 2.0 addict (yup I admit this). So basically, all songs that range from 160 BPM-200 BPM are all on HS2. Sometimes, I use HS2 for speeds even lower than that.

However, I tried something lately. I noticed that atm, I could not clear Setsugekka hyper and Quasar another consistently (only cleared both songs thrice on non-random and random). So one time, I decided to try something new for myself. I tried using HS x0.5 with SUDDEN+/TOWEL set to 500 units. It was something new for me and it really felt slightly different but after two tries, I finally got more hits and combos with it and thus I was able to handle the scratches more easily. Heck, I even found it more comfortable to use this new method instead of using HS x2.5 with SUDDEN+/TOWEL at the default level.

So yes, I decided that for songs from 150-155 BPM, I would try to use HS x0.5 with SUDDEN+/TOWEL at 500 UNITS.

I guess my suggestion is that instead of bumping the speed up to like HS 4-5, it is way better to use a lower speed (something like HSx1.5 or below) and just lower the towel down further. Look at DJ HELL for example. He used to use HS 3.0-3.5 with sudden+ at default level. Now, he uses HS 1.5 with SUDDEN+ at 400 units and his scores have improved further (especially on scratchy songs).

So for me: Lower Speed with lots more sudden+ > Higher speed (4.0-5.0) with/without Sudden+

But of course, my love for High-speed 2.0 is still a personal addiction of mine

I like using hidden when i wantto fail a song quickly. I'm bad at 12 and 13 stars so i dont want to look bad playing in front of my freinds and failing :"> You can blame it on the sudden hidden. it makes it so you can't see the lower part of you're screen and you can't see the ntoes when they drop to the redline. Hidden+ makes you fail pretty soon too bcuz u can increse or decrease the amount of hidden. you can have it go all the way up to 500 which is HALF your screen! Play with hispeed (abreviated HS if you didn't know) 2.0 so the notes come atcha really fastlike and BAM game over!! and plus 2.0 is an addiction of mine!!

This thread should have been closed a long time ago, when the original question was answered. Oh well.
