Marketplace Rating: 0 | Yeah, I remember '06's BMIII. From what I hear, by the second night or third day it was le fucked. Besides, there's a BMIII that no one ever plays within biking distance from my house (and if I REALLY wanted to play it during AX), walking distance from the con.
And as for DM, my guess is that it was the SAME machine they had in '07, updated from V to V3. GF even had some of the decals from V still on it. So if this was the same DM as last year, I'm surprised it wasn't beat to hell. Last year it was so-so, this year, about the same. Had to hit the snare and hi-hat noticibly harder than usual and I had quite a share of pad misses. The snare's weak spot was (shock) the lower right corner and just about the entire edge on the bottom half of the pad was no bueno. That and the chair bugged me, but I shouldn't be talking since I've been playing most of my DM on a short bar stool. If you ain't gonna play the bass, no point in reaching it, right? Haaaaa~

Marketplace Rating: 0 | Well this is just me but if they were able to put a cruddy horse racing game this year, they could've at least put in IIDX machine instead. Sure it doesn't have to be the latest version (even 7th style would've been fine). The games that were being played alot were Wangan 3, 3rd Strike, DDR & PPP. Didn't see that many people on GF/DM.

Truth be told, IIDX is not hard to find in the U.S., but it's not exactly a cakewalk either. That combined with few on the West Coast makes it even harder to find a relatively recent IIDX, let alone someone who will actually let you rent it out for an extended weekend. And even further, this IIDX will be running nonstop around the clock, 24 hours a day for FOUR DAYS STRAIGHT. And if that's not enough to worry an owner, this is Anime Expo, there will be SOMEONE that can find a way to fuck it up somehow for us (like spilling their $8 coffee from the Starbucks inside the convention center onto the keys). IIDX at AX would be quite popular, so I can see something stupid like that happening.

Broken is straight out little or no hit detection on the pads, or like exposed wiring on a pad. Broken would be when the machine was to the point where people who play on a regular basis would fail songs that they would not even come close to failing on (i.e. failing RIGHT ON TIME on ADV last year wat). And I didn't see a single thing bad on GF, it played like a beauty (although I was always playing left side )

Cen.), but definitely not 2004.....
I still remember 2004's arcade. Talk about a "lol wut" fest. They somehow managed to shove DDR EX, PPP 2nd, Initial D and I think Time Crisis 2 or 3 in a room about as large as a small living room inside the Anaheim Mariott. I shat steel I-beams when I first saw it. Funnier yet was when the next year, the same room became the Volunteer Sign-In and the arcade was moved to one of the ballrooms haha.

Marketplace Rating: 0 | nah, they definitely had IIDX there once. 8th i think, and it was the one with the ridiculously dim screen. Maybe it was a year or two before that but there was a IIDX machine and 2 DDR machines and some other shit i dont know back then i was really young and didnt know what either was really.

Also, I have to confess. I might have been the one who shattered one of the sensors on the DMX machine last year. Well, it might have been someone before me, but I was playing it pretty furiously when my hand smacked into one of it. The next thing I notice is that there were plastic shards on the floor

I only remember some tiny dude going crazy on Double and some asian guy pelvic thrusting his way through.

It's a shame that there are morons out there who will ruin the machine like that and for that reason they don't bother putting in a BM anymore.
The only place that's closest to me where there's a IIDX machine is AI (CGL used to have 7th style). And with gas prices being a bitch, I'm not willing to drive down there every weekend.

It would have to be something of the utmost importance for me to drive all the way somewhere for "just" an arcade.

but since you guys have the fire in ya for the hotness of iidx, i'll tell you the official story.
The machine was in CSU San Jose but it was brought down for 2 years, my memory will say 2004 and 2005. But on the trip down the hot summer grapevine. The top of the machine melted inward while on the truckbed, so the projection box is now warped. Whoops.
Broken #1.
..besides that, the game played fine, they managed to unwarp it as much as possible. But the screen was dim as fuck. That's not dust or the bulb. We never figured out what it was, but i would have guessed it was the projection screen REALLY old.
Broken #2
After those 2 years, it went to Cal Poly after that. which is where it suffered Hard drive Error Syndrome, and started crashing on songs.
Broken #3
The iidx machine now sits in a warehouse in socal.
They do have a DistorteD upgrade kit, but it doesnt work for these old machines where the front panel is only designed for 8th Style and earlier. KOJ used to sell front panel upgrade kits, but now those kits are RARE, and the old legacy machines are all abandoned. So as it sits right now- they need a new Monitor, and new hard drive for 8th or earlier. If you have one, PM me. and i'll let them know.

Some guys aspire to one day restore an old car, I on the other hand, busted up rhythm games.
Of course, this is coming from a guy who still has to go to the internets whenever he has to open up his PS2 to make sure he's doin' it right, so it's all nothing but
