Anime Expo 2008(Sure, 2 Months Away, But Close Enough To Make A Thread, Right?)

I'm going to be pre-registering this upcoming Saturday. I'm just waiting to go over to my friend's house because I'll be helping her pre-register as well.

I swear, I need to find someone to borrow a cheap laptop from so I can have some Stepmania to play while waiting in line for my badge on Day 0. I've already got it planned, I've got a lawn chair, I get a laptop, bring it fully charged and bring a spare battery or find one of those power outlets they have installed in the floors of convention centers and banquet halls, hopefully pick up a wifi signal around the area (IT'S DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES) and just cruise the line all the way through.

I might even install caster wheels in the lawn chair. Or if failed, maybe just buy a cheapie office chair from the Goodwill (hopefully with armrests) and never have to get up from my spot.

Selling shit at AX artist alley. Which bemani art characters are popular? Do people still like Iroha and the like from beatmania? I have no ideas from pop'n and drummania is kinda spotty on any mainstay characters.

My company was planning on opening up a booth in the dealers' room this year, but I changed my mind, mainly because I'm lazy :-P

I'm not even sure if I want to go to AX this year. Last year was pretty underwhelming, and I ended up not spending any money on anything. I did end up shooting a lot of photos, though. AX rekindled my love for photography.


Any idea on what they'll have arcade-wise this year? I didn't bother checking out the arcade last year after a beatmania cosplayer told me there was no IIDX.

ill probably have work again this summer when AX is happening, but if i dont i might crash with my cousin and spend some time there.

being as it is i havent been to AX in 4 years. I dont really want to blow a shitton of money again because i love buying stuff, so maybe i will avoid going.

also, IIRC they havent had a IIDX machine ever since...2003? they had an 8th style with a ridiculously dim screen.

I would've offered renting out my place's spare room for the weekend except for one thing: I won't even be at my place on AX weekend. Not that I don't trust bemanistylers () but I would have to be there to watch the place. I don't even trust some of my own flesh and blood with my moderately valuable anime figurine & related merchandise collection.

So I'm officially registered for all 4 days now, but after going through that list of female anime fans, I'm slightly starting to regret it. I know too many people that go out with #6's, and that just ain't right.

Anywhobutwaysnow, so far plans for outside-of-expo activities are looking good. I'll be cooking dinner for everybody staying at our friend's pad so they don't have to live off of 7-Eleven and Instant *anything* the whole weekend, like I've had to do so many times before (After Anime Expo 2004, I didn't want to consume anything salt ever again, but then I remembered that I liked potato chips. A lot.) 2 years ago we made a step in the right (?) direction by having a friend bring a home deep fryer to our hotel room.

Sorry, the microwave just doesn't do any justice to frozen taquitos compared to a deep fryer. That plus we made stupidly insane amounts of corn dogs (who knew liquor stores sold Jiffy cornbread mix?), including my favorite, the Bacon & Cheese Surpise Corn Dog. And yes, it's exactly what you're thinking.

Of course, fried fats will start to catch up with you when you're walking for hours on end. Fortunately this year we'll be staying with a friend who actually has a kitchen range (even if it is electric...), so that takes care of nights we decide to stay in and eat. As for the others, there's a lot, I mean A LOT of good restaurants in the nearby Little Tokyo area of Downtown that open up around 7pm for dinner service, so that's going to be pretty sweet going with all my friends to eat out somewhere that doesn't ask "for here or to go?".

Haha, I didn't want to eat out at the last AX so I bought a bunch of easy bread and PB&J.

It last the four days since I was the only one who ate it, just don't buy that Goober's shit.

I'm kinda excited because Disgaea 3 comes out in August so I am expected playable demo. I most likely will be at the Nippon Ichi booth the whole time, hopefully Nao will be there, like she remembers me, hahaha.
