Marketplace Rating: 3 | I just thought of something silly. Since Safari (the pool hall next door to AI) closed down, wouldn't it be awesome if AI just expanded there? Have like, 2 pool tables there and a bunch of other arcade games. Yeah, just a thought....

This is a REALLY good Idea. Maybe keeping the snack area open too. Selling smoothies and what not. Also I think people really would go in and play pool. You would have to isolate the sound of the IIDX machine and other music games also. so with people playing pool and doing other stuf. It wouldn't flow that direction. Maybe knock a portion of the wall out to have those sort of games stay on that side of the arcade.

Marketplace Rating: 1 | It would be a great idea but I think it all comes down to money. Safari has about 2 times the space and I think the rent or lease on that place is not cheap. If the original pool place with like 13 or 14 tables closed down I don't know how much of a chance AI can make out of that place. Well who knows? Thats just IMHO

or are they always around regardless? | I'm sure they'll still be around the plaza in general, but at least not in a focused area, like they were because of Safari. However, that can also be bad news for AI - although it's easy to think that an arcade's revenue comes from the hardcore there-every-week players, a lot of it does come from passerbys, just stopping for a few games because they walked by and saw something that piqued their interest. Safari closing is unfortunately going to eliminate a lot of traffic for them, and being in the corner area on the 2nd floor, there's no easy way to make up for that.

Ken really relies on our support to pay for these kits, SuperNOVA is a perfect example. That machine set him back like $15,000. And it still hasn't paid itself off because NO ONE goes there to play it, even with how good the price is. It's gotten to the point where he told me he might sell off the Extreme just to cut his losses a little. Happy Sky didn't cost him as much and it's paid itself off, but he's already eaten the cost of the DistorteD kit.
Repairs aren't cheap either, if you guys want the games fixed, or modified so that we can have the best place to play, we need to go there and support the arcade. I can honestly say that the fighting games are making AI the best money right now, and while Ken has no plans to stop trying to get us upgrades for all of the music games (trust me when I say we have some awesome stuff in the works right now) if they stop making money, he might have to.
Ken does alot of this stuff for US, not for the sake of making money. He's a great guy and he likes to make his customers happy, even if it's gonna be a risk for him. We've been talking for a while about a new monitor for the IIDX machine, just so it's that much better for everyone. And whenever you guys have a problem with a machine, he does his best to get it repaired as quick as possible, and if he doesn't hear about it I go up there and take care of it. Ken DOES read these forums, he DOES listen to your feedback, and he DOES care what you think, and if you guys just shrug the place off it doesn't do anyone who goes any good.
I honestly think we should try to schedule a huge get together one of these weekends, and just have EVERYONE who posts here who is a regular meet up at AI and hang out for the night, play games, go get dinner, and have a good time. Bring it back to how it used to be, where everyone got together to play and support the place, regardless of how busy the place is.
