I know that many of you don't know me, since I moved to Northern California in 2002. These past four years, I was only present 3 months out of the year (I am finishing up my last year of university here in Chicago), but I have played PIU in MGL as well as DDR SN and ITG2 in both MGL and CVGL (the closest Golfland to my current residence).
Some of you might not know this, but currently Andamiro, in order to promote PIU and to establish a system for people to run tournaments and to qualify to represent their country in World Pump Festival (the world PIU tournament), has established a club system.
The club requirements in specific as well as qualifying for tournaments are on
http://club.piugame.com/, but I'll summarize...
The primary requirement for getting a club approved is merely 15 silver members, so that means basically anyone who can do the free registration for piugame.com and has a picture of himself or herself... even if they're NOT a skilled PIU player.
Now, if you are a DDR/ITG player, don't stop reading yet! Although this club system emphasizes PIU-related events... this doesn't mean you must ONLY have PIU at events or tournaments! This is an opportunity for everyone who likes DDR, ITG, or PIU to get together for events... so people can meet other people who like dancing games as well as a chance to explore other games outside of your own preferred one. In essence, this doesn't just have to be a Northern California PIU club... but a Northern California Dance Gamers club! (Well, you can think of a better name than I just did.) A community for all of the people capable of playing DDR/ITG/PIU to meet together... with a chance of getting funding.
If we do events right and do enough of them, it is possible for us to get sponsorship for Andamiro for our future events... which is good for tournaments DDR, ITG, or PIU! (Or ParaPara) as well as ice-cream socials, chilling, whatever will eventually be considered.
In addition, though less important for DDR/ITG people, a club can also ensure proper representation for the few skilled PIU players in Northern California, who may need all the help can get to take on the likes of JBoy, Johnny, and Redviper... without this club, skilled Northern California PIU players young and old will miss out on a chance to take the title of US champion at PIU Nationals... I mean, if California can have some of the strongest ITG/DDR players in the nation, wouldn't it be nice to add PIU to that?
Anyway, I'm just throwing out this idea, since I have no idea how popular a "dancing game" club for the Northern California region... it's clear that we have enough talent and people here, but I understand if some people are VERY averse to being supported by the PIU flag. Nevertheless, I think this will help not only the promotion of dancing games here... but give us a good chance at community.
Unfortunately, because of an emergency decision, I am stuck in the Chicago PIU club, in order to help them fulfill the 15-people requirement, and should I leave, I would not be able to join another club for 2 months... in essence, I cannot form a club of my own for Northern California or join one until after Nationals in September or so. However, I'm sure there's more than enough people in Northern California who have better contacts than I do.
So... would there be any interest in doing something like this?
To add a little more pressure unfortunately... the deadline for club approval this year is May 30th.
