i'm moving to LA!

lol. so yeah, i'm a indonesian, and i'm moving next year to LA. so i've got some questions that i need to be answered:

1. are there lots of asians there?
2. good gaming community? ( like, do they have lots of game stores, gaming tournament, etc)
3. lots of good folks?
4. how about the teens? are most of them like druggers or alcaholic? rofl. my mom insist me to ask people about this.

that's all. and you guys may give any info you like about LA that you like.. thanks !!

Prepare to pay out the ass for -everything-. Food, gas, services? All more expensive.

Prepare for hour travel time to be the norm. Being from Texas, I'm used to having everything in my area within half an hour.

If you go to A.I., don't play Initial D or Wangan Midnight if you like not having pieces of metal being forced into your flesh.

As long as you're chill and don't take yourself too seriously socalites have been, in my experience, really friendly, good-humored peeps. As for stoners and that shit I'm sure they have their share but not to the extent that norcal does. I'd live there if I was going to a school down there or something but not now when I'm broke and unemployed.

What part of Los Angeles are you moving to? Are you moving to the city of Los Angeles, or LA county? The best place for bemani games is Arcade Infinity gets very crowded at night times so go during the day if possible. I don't know how expensive indonesia is but one game of DM, GF, or BM is about 60 to 75 cents for 1 game. Having been to Japan and South Korea I'd actually rate LA county, excluding West LA and Beverly hills, to be relatively cheap.

i am moving to the city of Los Angeles. so tell me, which places i should check out at LA if i'm a gamer. and, do you know any good schools there?

Closest to you is probably Cyberzone in Koreatown or whatever that arcade is called in little tokyo. Parking is hell in those places so if you got a car it might be better to spend half an hour driving to AI on non traffic days.

I only went to LA for UCLA. I know nothing of high schools, Jr. high schools, West LA is probably ok for high schools, if you plan on living in south central, just remember in high school: Save teenage pregnancy until your Junior year, Firearms are only to be only used during recess, the only school subject people expect you to succeed in is basketball, you can divert police dogs with rags soaked in rabbit blood and cocaine, and you graduate with high honors if you maintain a 1.2 GPA.

School... depends... How old are you? :X I've lived in the l.a. area all my life. Los Angeles Unified School District tends to suck when you're in high school and whatnots. As far as Asians... not as much it's diversed. If you want to see more asian people you should live in the San Gabriel Valley.

rofl South Central isn't the best place to be living even though rent is cheap as hell there.

Being that I've lived in L.A. my entire life (sans the 6 months I was in Arizona in '06 (Refer to old-as-hell posts about Gameworks Tempe in the Southwest board), I think I'll be able to help you out. First off, let me be the first on here to welcome you to the great city of Los Angeles. Uhhh...........yeah.

1) Uhhhhhhhh.......yes and no? No more than any other major city (on the Pacific coast, no less). L.A. is a VERY diverse city.
2) Game stores, yes. Plenty. Both in chains (EB, Gamestop), electronics stores, and independent stores. Tournaments are a little harder to find, but your best chance to find a tournament would be at any of the conventions held around the city during the year (Anime Expo, Pacific Media Expo, and Japancon just to name a few).
3) Again, big city. That's sort of like asking "Well, are there plenty of nice folks in New York City?" I mean, you'll run into nice people in your own neighborhood, but in the big parts of town (Downtown, Mid-City, Century City), maybe not. It's just how big cities are.
4) Teens? Drunks? Druggies? Uhh.......no? At least outside any of the "slum" areas.

Los Angeles isn't a bad place. Theres a few good arcades. I'm partial to the one in the little Tokyo mall ( I don't remember the name either). Depending in what part of LA you'll live in will determine how good the school/niceness of people are. Also to make a correction, Yes there is drugs and alcohol blah blah. It doesn't matter what part of LA you live in its pretty easy to find drugs. Which is awesome if you like to do drugs but if you don't its not hard to avoid either so its not really much to worry about.

The Arcade in little Tokyo is in a mall full of insanely awesome food. Not to mention its close to china town and Alvera street and all those places which are also awesome when it comes to food.
