No broken games I could see, except that the Zero spazzes and doesn't turn on until an hr. after it's been shut off.

There were stools for Drummania, so no problems there, and the place keeps all the doors open all day...

Which leads me to wonder... when the last time you've been to that place? Granted, it lacks pop'n and IIDX, but it's STILL a decent place (and a Godsend for PIU players) with a decent staff; well at least for Drummania, Guitar Freaks, and stepping games.
When did you go?

Supernova's pads are WRECKED. I can AA shit easy at SVGL; at MGL, i can't even *pass* most songs because of how bad the pads are.

Drummania, when you hit the snare, two other drums activate. There is no stool to sit down on either, has not been for over two years (unless they just suddenly decided to do one) so no offense, but unless you play those you shouldn't be talking about them :-/

The doors have been closed for about the last 50+ times i've been there, been going there since 2000, last went in August (mid august or so) 2006.

Last visit was during the second half and late August, and I am positive that there was a stool by the Drummania machine there. I never mentioned the machine's condition, since I haven't played the game enough and am too unskilled to tell, but I'm positive there was a stool when I was there. I've only gone during Saturdays, so I don't know if the conditions are different during the weekdays, but during the times I went, the doors were open.

About Supernova... it had to have been working by the time the tournament came around, so that might be why I didn't feel any problems with it (considering the tournament folks would've liked to get the pads repaired before a tournament), and this happened probably 1-2 weeks after mid-August (sorry, memory fuzzy) It's hard to tell though, what with Supernova sync issues and all.

ITG2 and PIU worked fine last I checked, though PIU still has the "can't boot up because it's too hot" problem.

I do agree that, on paper, Sunnyvale has a more solid rhythm game lineup than Milpitas, but without PIU, it pretty much forces me to make the trip to Milpitas instead, even IF I lose out on IIDX and pop'n... can't have cake and eat it too I guess.

I'm surprised Milpitas Golfland isn't all that crowded on weekends though, even WITH the discount in the morning; any ideas why?

MGL's doors have always been open whenever I go (with fans running above two of them), with the exception of during Arcademania where they have to keep one of those doors closed.

Beatmania the Final isn't really outdated, because there's nothing to upgrade it to. Can't play IIDX with 5 keys.

Cymbal on the DrumMania V machine still falling apart? The rubber was starting to come off, so if you hit the cymbal anywhere with loose rubber, it wouldn't register. :<

Valius: DBV was probably talking about getting stools for drummers, which are shorter than the regular stools for the MvC2/CvS2/SF3:3s players.

The best deals are at Wednesday nights ($6 for 5 hours) and Thursday ($10 for 13 hours) - in comparison to those, the Saturday arcademania ($6 for 3 hours) feels like a rip-off.

The place usually is crowded on weekends for some kid's birthday though, just not in the arcade.

MGL also needs to fix the session play already.

Ah ok... that explains why he was so irate about it (understandably so). Those deals ARE really good, which makes it a pity I can't get to Milpitas on weekdays... (I'd forgotten about those deals) What's session play, btw?

Oh, and I guess you're technically correct on the beatmania III machine By upgrade, I was hoping they'd get a new Distorted or something, but that might be wishful thinking...

Session mode links a Guitar Freaks and DrumMania machine of the same mix together so that they share hitcharts, and so that three people can play together.

Unlike simple two player mode on GF, playing session mode has other quirks:

- all players share the same meter
- an additional combo is added - in addition to each player's individual combos, there is a combined combo for the whole group

Add this with how Nonstop keeps the combo counter going through four songs, and you can get ridiculously high combos. My friends and I aim for a 10588 combo (four Funky Sonic Worlds, since we can't do four Onihimes in a row with Guitar Freaks/DrumMania V machines in the US).

And yeah, Distorted is wishful thinking with SVGL's bemani lineup. MGL's really just a convenient place to find some MvC2, CvS2, SC3 and SF3:3s competition, but they're starting to lose that ever since they turned that CvS2 into a head-to-head cabinet (complete with rolling screens and broken sound).

Yeah, the only reason I really go to Milpitas is for the PIU machine, a few rounds on SC3 when tired, and the chance to play Sakura Heavy, Banzai Challenge, and Beat of the War 2 Crazy all in one place, since the Castro Valley Golfland has both DDR and ITG, but not PIU which is a shame. :\ Also the PIU machine there is cheaper than D&B's PIU Zero and has better pads.

Session mode sounds like a lot of fun, which makes it a shame it's not in...

Eh, PIU is 4 tokens at MGL, which seems overpriced to me since I've been spoiled by the 2 token PIU machine at UCD.

Left black key was broken on the 2P side on Beatmania the Final, so no Center Play. Cymbal on the DrumMania V machine is still falling apart. Someone was AAing songs on Supernova, so I don't know what DBV is talking about. Probably just a small problem you need to get used to.

SF3:3s machines were busy as usual, I had to wait in a line of 6 people to get my Q on. Someone lowered the VIT on my Legend Lizardman on SC3.

Ah, but UCDavis isn't close enough for me to hog the arcade like that... the $0.50-$1 difference doesn't cover the extra gas costs to drive the hour to Davis as well as time, traffic costs.... but I see why it'd be annoying. But $1 is worth it to die on Moonlight CZ!!! HAHAHA... oh that song destroys my legs... $1 is the usual price in arcades I've been to, although I've played a $0.75 Premiere 2 before in school.

And that sucks for your Legend mode Lizardman I mostly play against humans though, so I haven't really touched Legend mode in SC3 AC yet... by the way, have you gone on a weekend before? Just wondering, since I might've been there at the same time and not known it.

Legend Mode's a major moneysink (Better than HotD3 but still worse than Time Crisis 4), I think I spent about $7 of tokens weakening Lizardman and Olcadan low enough to claim them and then strengthening them up. Good thing for arcademania though.

Today was the last day I'd go to MGL before moving back out to the dormitories, but if you saw someone with headphones:

- Hadoukening/Shoryukening/Corkscrew Blowing the MoCap Boxing machine
- Center playing Beatmania the Final one-handed like Lisu
- Playing Sabre Dance on KBM
- Playing Q/Twelve in SF3:3S
- Playing Anakaris/Iceman/Guile in MvC2

It was probably me.

Hmmm, I didn't pay enough attention to the people playing beatmania regular :\ If I were there, I'd be the Chinese guy playing the PIU a lot, panting a lot, or making very occasional plays at the ITG2 and Supernova machines. :P

I didn't have a problem AA-ing songs on the SuperNOVA machine and they got the update patch on it about 1-2 weeks ago if I remember correctly. (Finally doing better on SPARKLE, still not good enough to pass it, damn Innocence Of Silence)

The DrumMania 10th machine works okay, but the snare at the V machine is... well... a little broken. It hits when I don't want it to (failed WE ARE that way).

Do any of you know if MGL is looking to upgrade GFDM to V2?

If anyone sees someone doing any of the following (in any sequenti:

- Wearing a possible Napoleon Dynamite T-Shirt
- Struggling on the following song on SuperNova: bag
- Crapping out badly on a hard song of III the Final/Keyboardmania REAL/ITG
- Adding $1-4 worth of tokens in a TC4 machine in the DESPERATE hope of speed-running it (with the alloted amount of deaths possible, in said case, 1 to 4)
- Dual-wielding guns on any gun game that's not Time Crisis 2-4

That would be me.

I'd also agree that we should upgrade the beatmania machine. I'm getting tired of playing the same songs on BMIII OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN! Just add IIDX already so I can finally see some AC version! It's been about 3 years since I've seen a IIDX machine, and the one I played on was 4th style, I think. Also, I wasn't very familiar with IIDX at that time, so I just hit frantically and panicked until, boom, I die.

Why not take the extra 15 minutes and go play IIDX Happy Sky @ SVGL?
