Anyway, official Modesto topic, not that there's many of us.
And out of curiosity, if any other Modestan's have seen/been to any local DDR tournaments, how good are the people here?

Marketplace Rating: 0 | i'm pretty much the best in modesto and surrounding area (tracy, turlock, whatever), there's a few people sorta close to my level that play at modesto boomers but not really :-/
i'm the one who hosted the first two modesto tournaments, one at funworks, and one at boomers, and i've been to about 17 other california tournaments, if that helps haha
skillwise, i'm much more for speed than PA, but i can easily AA pretty much all of the songs except for maxx unlimited, legend of maxx, psmo, etc.
the pads at boomers aren't great either, neither are funworks, i notice when i was in tokyo i was easily AAAing stuff i could only AA before, so that's a large part of it most likely.
plus i'm only 115 pounds, so that's a huge disadvantage for me if the pads suck cuz of my light weight, i have to be much more accurate and freeze arrows don't stick for me etc.
boomers is getting supernova around mid-july/end of july from what i've heard.

Question: Can you get in the 80s on 4/5 12-footers on ITG?
If not, I should be entering tournaments and thus beating you.
Haha, and yeah, I don't focus on PA much. Only things I haven't AA'd in DDR are LoM and PSMO.

i can't play it effectively anyways due to the graphics; where I look at to "line up" the arrows is exactly where the "excellent" (etc.) graphics come up when you hit an arrow. therefore my way of playing the game, something burned into me for six years, is pretty much destroyed, so for instance;
if you got a 12 footer that was on ITG, and put it on a DDR skin, i would annihilate it.
if it's on ITG, i can barely pass it.
weird, but i've tested this and it's really only the skin, nothing else. (using stepmania, cobalt flux pads etc.)
in comparision though, if you ever play at boomers, the edits are mine on the machine; the xenon edit i can full combo on a good day (all 16ths) and there's a daikenkai edit on there with all 16ths that I can usually A or so. fastest i ever did was an edit on paranoia evolution with 16ths, equal to the speed of determinator on ITG2.

And according to my friend David, who claims he knows you in person, you've pretty much started to focus on Drummania now?

and yeah i'm focusing on drummania, and pop'n. only thing I can't beat in drummania is a few of the model DD's and the least 100 seconds, and daydream. anything else i can beat on extreme, usually with an A if it's 90+, below 90, usually an S with exceptions (joker, for example)

Plus, drummania kicks ass. I still enjoy DDR/ITG, but dm is something new to me thus making it far more enjoyable. and dez, how is it that the graphics mess you up? first day of me playing itg i had no problem of that whatsoever. The only thing i see is a different noteskin and songlist. everything else is pretty much the same.
And if boomers is really getting supernova, then the three of us should go once they have it. I think playin with a group/friends is funner rather than kickin it by yourself =O

And if boomers is really getting supernova, then the three of us should go once they have it. I think playin with a group/friends is funner rather than kickin it by yourself =O | well, let's put it this way.
when I play DDR, i never actually look at the grey arrows.
I only look at the "line" directly beneath them; that is, if you look at the grey arrows, then "tiled" them one set below themselves, that's exactly where I look at the arrows.
because of this, on ITG, since the entire game skin is moved "down" by a few pixels, and the rating when you hit a step is moved "up", this effectively puts me into a permanent "hidden + sudden" mode when i play the game, leaving only an extremely small area where I can actually "read" the area.
so yeah, it's not something i can easily change; it's just how my mind works. plus, i've played ITG all of about six times, so i have about zero experience with the songs, which also adds into it most likely.
plus, even a note skin bothers me. every single aspect of DDR i tune into to keep my rhythm; the lights flashing, the noteskin of the arrows flashing, the shape of the arrows themselves, the life bar's rhythm, etc. i subconsciously notice all of that, and if any of that's changed, it's like if i were playing drums and someone switched my hi-hat with my crash cymbal.
it's adaptable, but it puts you in a handicapped situation. same reason why some stuff i can do easily on real life drums i can't do on drummania, and vice versa. different setups.
that and i probably lost interest in dance games around 2004 :P supernova isn't going to reinstate it either; if we got a pump it up or something maybe, but really supernova i'm going to play fascination maxx until i beat it and then like never play it except randomly again for exercise, the game is just too damn boring in music selection and too easy.
and some of the song choices...
centaur? dragon blade? if you're going to do those songs, put under control in there, put daydream in there lmfao

...'K.
And Vintage Faire has had a PIU in Tilt for the longest time, just uh, so you know.

and when did I say ITG was too easy? it's harder than DDR for sure, but i've tested it out, and the only thing that holds me back on ITG is just the note skins + positioning of the arrows. If you put those songs/notes on DDR, through stepmania, i can pass most 12's pretty easily.
also, i just have no interest in ITG like i have no more interest in DDR anymore. dance games got boring to me around 2004, because I got into drummania which was much more varied in music and much more entertaining/harder than any dance game out.
plus drummania actually taught me basic drums, which i was able to improve on with my own drumset, and DDR taught me... foot-eye coordination. lol
right around 2004 I got a ton of new hobbies also, so I didn't really have time to go the arcade, same as now. I just don't have any interest in playing dance games anymore, supernova i'll play a few times just because it's new but probably not anymore. If anything just for the exercise lol

Anyway, if it doesn't interest you, that's fine.

Anyway, if it doesn't interest you, that's fine. | well yeah, DDR is too easy, i make edits for DDR so it's actually fun to play lol
the edits on the modesto boomers machine are all mine, but i've got harder ones on my memory card (doubles ones, kinda weird ones but yeah)
the other problem with dance games is the music.
DDR (past 5th mix) and ITG (all versions, except for about three songs) really are just nothing but horrible music.
i hate j-pop, j-rock, and generic techno songs. i don't mind them in a few songs, or even half, but when 95% of a game sounds is j-pop/rock or generic techno or sounds like it was made on fruity loops, i really lose desire to play the game.
4th mix + of DDR is the pinaccle of dance games to me; assuming that i can make edits for it and play them on there to raise the difficulty level of it.
Pump It Up i'd probably play 5X more than any dance game if there was just one close to me that wasn't a poor version; the latest version covers tons of genres, has hard and easy steps, and the music sounds good, professional, not just like some stuff made in a garage.
DDR supernova is the same thing; tons of older songs, the home releases, and maybe 40 new songs, half or more of which are just from other bemani.
Drummania I got into because not only does it keep my drum skills up some, but the music is *highly* varied. no more than 1/3rd, at max, of the songlist in any given game is j-pop/rock at all.
So I should say, if there were ITG-level difficulty songs on DDR, with the good music that 5th mix and below had, with DDR note skins, i'd be far more interested in playing dance games. When I go to boomers now and play, it's mostly for exercise, and just to screw around on edits (of which i'd make a lot more.. if i had any versions of DDR that worked anymore lol)

not saying this affects you, but the new manager also is really a retard, so good luck trying to get one of the staff to open up the machine to do it without someone going like OMFGS
