The whole 6 flags company is in debt, they just picked this one to sell first because its the most expensive one. There are 6 Original "6 flags" theme parks in the US but now 7 because they bought off Marine World within the last 6 or 7 years. Now they are selling 3 parks including Magic Mountain. Maybe they shud now change their name to 4 flags.

The 6 flags parks are in

Magic Mountain - Valencia California
Marine World - Napa California
Over texas -Arlington
Frontier City - Oklahoma City
New Orleans - New Orleans (Closed due to Hurrican Katrina)
Over Georgia - Atlanta
New Jersey - Baltimore

Why they picked this one is beyond me. They put too much money and time into it. Plus, it's the largest one, so why not get ride of the Dinky ones?

Is it because even with the Dinky ones gone, there would then be no hope left for MM?

It's because this park is so big its worth more on the market. If Six Flags were to sell, Magic Mountain would be at least worth 500 million dollars (other parks were auctioned off at around the same price, but their starting bid was alot lower, so imagine Six Flags being sold for a billion dollars). This is because MM is supposedly right in the middle of "real estate county", and because it has one of a kind roller coasters found no where else in the world.

Its something that Six Flags just can't ignore unfortunately. They see themselves in a 2 billion dollar debt, selling MM is ideal for them getting back on their feet and out of debt.

I personally doubt they can sell the park. Odd's are they are gonna liquidate the rides and sell the land.

I'm sure certain rides can be sold to other parks. Not all will become rubbish.

I've heqard soooo many things bout 6 flags. The more "poplular" belief is that they are not goig to sell- that thay're just rennovate/ clean the place up (god that place is dirty...) and make the place more family friendly (add more kiddy rides, etc.).

buuut idk...
Hope they don't close- I got LOTS of good memories there... including the time we went and it was semiraining so my friends and I just went to the arcade for 6 hour straight! XD

If they do sell Magic Mountain, many negitive effects will come up: The local economy would have a major impact. Thousands of jobs would be lost to real estate and condominiums and unemployment in the area would sharply rise, crime would increase significantly. Roudy teenagers and gangs would migrate to other local amusement parks such as Knott's Berry Farm and uh, Disneyland and hold their "parties" over there instead.

Magic Mountain has arguably the best collection of roller coasters on the Western Hemisphere (only Cedar Point in Ohio really even comes close), and for that reason alone I'd be sad to see it go. The truth is though that their emphasis on coasters came at the expense of families (who spend more money inside the park), and the place is REALLY starting to fall apart. Compared to other places like Knotts and Universal Studios, MM looks so run down it's not even funny.

From what I understand though, the real estate is actually worth more than the park itself.
