The panel staff isn't fond of Bemani related panels after a certain nitwit or two royally screwed up the Bemani/DDR panel a couple years ago to the point where they want to take a rest from bemani related panels.
I'll speak with the new head of panels though about if that is still in effect... | |

Oh yeah, what kind of provisions are there for IIDX? At AWA last year, we ended up having only like 7th and 9th (CS) to play on in the game room, because the guy only brought those two and they wouldn't use my (legit) copies of anything else for reasons that probably had something to do with liability but were explained to me only in the vaguest of ways. I'd assume since this one is much bigger, they'd have more stuff, though.

Otakon is pretty much useless in giving information regarding tournaments or any kind of planning towards the video game hall.
One look at the official forums (which in my opinion, could have been designed better,) and there is not absolute information about what the hell is actually happening. All I see is just people setting up their own tournaments and opinions being shot down.
Apparently, this one person is trying to start a Para Para Paradise tournament and he isn’t having much luck with it. But never the less here is the deal:
You have to have the real game; Otakon is not dealing with copies for reasons vaguely explained. So this is not a problem, I trust majority of you have official IIDX/DDR games (I don’t see a reason for DDR since a DDR tournament was stated.) The problem is that the game has to be approved by the Video Game section. I have no idea what the hell is going on with that but that is the deal.
On the note of panels, it doesn’t look like we’ll be able to have one. The deadline for registering panels was May 25.
However, if anyone is going to Katsucon next year I could use my connections to try and get us one. | |

All you have to do to make the tournament official is talk to the Video Game Head before Otakon (meaning e-mails, message boards, and all that stuff.) Once they give you the approval, you have yourself a tournament. You just need several official copies of IIDX because I'm sure not many people are patient to wait on a three song showdown between two people for hours on end.
