Summer Step 2006
Sponsored by Roxor and Red Octane!
Rules are a bit old-schoolish. They're meant to tip the scales of favor back to players who may not be able to clear 12s and 13s but have better timing.
Location: Lazer X in Addison, IL
1455 West Lake Street
Addison, IL 60101
630-691-9800
Entry is $10
Venue opens at 11am.
Signups start at 1pm.
Qualifying round scheduled to start at 2pm, plan on being there before then PLEASE.
NO entrants accepted after the last qualifying match begins.
Qualifying songs will be announced on the day of the event.
Players will be ranked according to percentage earned (recalced with correct formula) in a double-elimination bracket. Bracket will have either 8, 16, or 32 players, any spill-over will result in eliminations. (IE if you're seeded #33, you're outta there, sorry)
***Please note: due to time or machine cost issues, we MAY have to do either an additional qualifier or ONE single-elimination round after the first qualifier to narrow the field. This is a big maybe, and we will ONLY do this if the normal bracket for 32 players will either take way too long, or take a considerable chunk out of the cash pot.
Here's an example of a 16-player bracket:

Two things to note:
- The RED brackets would be played as "best of three songs"
- In the finals, it is technically single-elimination. Thus, if you go undefeated to the finals, and then lose, you're elminated then. :P
MATCH PLAY:
-Normal rounds will consist of ONE song.
-Higher-seeded player will pick song
-Lower-seeded player will pick difficulty (choice of Easy, Medium, Hard, Expert)
-Winner is determined by percentage score (recalculated with correct formula)
Finals, Semifinals, and Quarterfinals will be best of three songs. Songs 1 and 3: high seed picks song, low seed picks difficulty. Song 2: low seed picks song, high seed picks difficulty.
ALL NON-DISQUALIFYING MODS ARE ALLOWED AND SELECTED BY EACH PLAYER FOR THEIR OWN USE. BAR USE ALSO ALLOWED.
In the event of a song tie, winner will be determined by more Fantastics, then more Excellents, then more Freezes, then more Mines. If players have an identical tie, a new song will be chosen to replace the tied score.
Disputes on pad errors will be made on a case-by-case basis. CONTINUE TO PLAY NORMALLY IF THEY OCCUR. If a score recalculation would result in a tie or reversal of outcome, the song will be replayed.
PRIZES:
Cash pot equaling entry fees minus machine use (we have to pay for games). Number of cash-earning slots and ratio to be determined by number of entrants, but most likely a Top-3.
Other prizes may be available depending on sponsorships.
Most sponsored prizes will be awarded based on special achievements as opposed to top finishers.
Why?
Because I've seen time and time again situations where the top money finishers don't even care about the little stuff like pads, shirts, even PS2 games. It's usually the others that really look forward to the swag. So to give something for EVERYBODY to look forward to, and even the playing field out, we'll be doing an Achievement system for most if not all sponsored prizes. Can't give exact details for surprise reasons, but I promise it'll be fun!
For the curious, this is on an Andamiro R1 dedicated cabinet. Pads are in great condition.
I'm also bringing a PS2 for *ENTRANTS* to enjoy beatmaniaIIDX and Guitar Hero during downtime.
