WELL since IIDX 14th Style is getting an American release, there should be no problem with at least obtaining something newer. I don't think there will be upgrade kits, but it's an option as well.
Beatmania IIDX 8th Style in Frankenmuth at the Bavarian Inn Lodge. Game is now .50 cents for 3 Songs + Extra Stage in Arcade Mode. 2 songs in Free Mode. There is no way to change the # of songs in Free Mode even in the Operator's Options. All the keys light up. Monitor is nice now with no timing issues and no flickering. I also got my hands on a replacement DVD Videos disc. The DVD player on the machine works *with a bit of cleaning * and the DVD Videos disc was installed today. So yes we have working videos again. So as far as I know, we have a fully working IIDX 8th Style machine now. Now just to see if I can get my hands on a full pcb upgrade kit.

Check Yahoo! Japan, they're still trickling in slowly but it won't last long. Average going price is 300-600, from what I've seen. Otherwise forum member Kaizoku is selling one for a pretty big sum on Ebay (something like 1200-1500).

I need the FULL PCB Upgrade kit including all the hardware. Since we have an 8th Style machine, I need the full pcb upgrade including the new computer. The Distorted kit on ebay is for machines 9th Style and Higher. From what I've found so far for a complete pcb upgrade kit, they are much more expensive, unfortunately.

The DD kit on Ebay IS the full hardware upgrade, the only difference is that it lacks the I/O board. You could probably obtain one of those if you asked around enough. I'm not sure if the 8th and below machines were equipped with the board - if they were, then you're in business.
From everything that I have ever read about upgrading IIDX machines you will not be able to do anything until you can obtain a 9th Style upgrade. From that point the other Style would become an option.
Hey I know this is super late notice but Saturday at 1 there is a GH tourney at a local bar near me. They also have "Guitar Hero" Thursdays. I'm going to be up there tonight.
