I bought mine off of ebay, a metal arcade one, and I have to say they are sexy as heck. lol. So if I were you try Ebay they have tons of mats on there.

Well, get used to playing Expert songs with the regular pad on sale for $20. After getting used to that, move on to playing some good stuff in a local cab (with a decent pad, not a malfunctioning one or one that sucks). Get used to playing the decent 8 and 9's and then play them on the cab. You'll see that with the bar in a cab, you'll do better, but that is again up to you.
It can't be humanly possible to do well on anything higher than 10 footers. OTL
Check out Youtube. Also, if it is humanly impossible to do good on above a 10-footer, what am I, an alien?

You should get the simfile for it and compare it to the grove radar of PARANOiA survivor MAX. You'd be surprised...
