for some, the constant same balance makes staying on beat much easier (thats why i bar, i loose my balance and am of on step timing when i dont bar)
but the bar can also be for focusing weight, so not all your weight is on your legs, but also on your hands, which are holding you up on the rail.

~Uiru | I only use the bar on FAXX and my own crazy 14+ step a second edits, but honestly, i'd rather pass the song/FC/AAA it, using the bar, than fail it/do shitty on it without it.

When your about to slip and fall, using the bar to rebalance yourself is ok, it's just when people use it more than 5% of the song is the problem. Personally I think using a controller/keyboard is about the same skill as using the bar. The bar should be banned from tournaments completely regardless whether your doing Boom Boom Dollar light or Legend Road. Speed mods don't affect me as much as this new bar using craze, unless it changes the difficult of a song completely (Bag anyone?).

I can AAA stuff without it(most of my AAA's are non-bar) but the bar helps alot on faster songs in my opinion. When people rip on the bar there's no point. Yeah it doesn't look cool, but your not going for looks.. Your going for a good score.

I learned how to play the game no bar and I am completely capable of playing well without it, but it does get more difficult playing at higher speeds (over 450bpm) without bar use. Playing no bar on the faster 10s isn't the easiest thing for me either, but I don't really play those much anyway. Quote: |
Originally Posted by isostrife Around here using the bar is like playing with little... | I can't see that as a fair comparison. Using the bar doesn't make things that much easier (at least not to the extent that Little does). The bar in some cases can actually make songs more difficult, since it limits your movement and occasionally forces you to double-step more than you would probably like to (and spinning is near impossible unless you're really flexible). If you want an example of this, look at the end of exotic ethnic Heavy Double. Using the bar is pretty much out of the question. It also makes things like the Trip Machine series a whole lot less fun to play.
Either way, personal preference rules in the end. If you like it, use it; if not, don't.

Marketplace Rating: 6 | As far as me, I don't use the bar that much unless I want to save a bit of energy or I have a stomach cramp (which I get, like, how many times?). I never figured out how to use it (although one time I had slippery shoes, so I barred Twilight Zone, B4U, and So Deep), but there are some times you can use it to save energy on actions that you don't want to expend energy too much. Say, the machine gun steps on Ska a Go Go. I held the bar a bit and did the machine gun steps, and it helped a lot.
I've never used a bar on a 10 footer. Of course, lots of other people do. Don't get pressured by what other people say, it's your money, not theirs.

It makes songs maybe 1/4-1/3 easier but nowere near as easy as just using a keyboard(legs versus fingers which will tire you out more). Sure in DDR I think barring can be silly on most songs but once you get to the 12+ difficulty charts of ITG, Playing barless is only an option to people who have an amazing amount of skill. I'm sure there are plenty of people out there as well who can do 13's on the keyboard but probably wouldn't do to well playing even with the bar.

estimation; around at least 80% of the current DDR community uses speed mods.
estimation; around 10% of that 80% could do just as well without speed mods. the rest would get far worse scores on 1x than they would on higher speed mods.
estimation; only about 40% of players use the bar.
going by this, using speed mods is something that more players need to be able to pass hard songs, than is using the bar. so if you want to talk about things making the game "easier", quit using speed mods. gg

Bar use in personal casual play: Play however you freaking want.
Bar use for obtaining competitive scores/online ranking sites/tournaments: Widely accepted unless specifically banned.
