Default Being tall a crutch?

I have a question. Does being tall hinder proformace?
Why I ask this is because when I play doubles I seem to do better if I'm my center of gravity is lower to the ground. Example like doing 1L, 1D, 1R, 2L, 2U, 2R, 2D, 2L, 1R, 1U... (Another example is CSFILSM with that wierd crossover in the middle) at really really high speeds totally throws off my balance if I'm more in an upright position. If I'm like sort of in a more "sumo"ish stance I can counter weight much better. If I'm in that bent knee stance for too long I get kinda sore in the joints.
I'm not that tall round 5'7"-9" weighing at like 180 lbs. Doing singles is not a problem like Exotic Ethnic kinda things cuz your center is always stationary. So just wondering if I'm just wierd or is having a lower center of gravity a plus?

No, I'm 5'7" and I playt pefectly. 160 lbs. (I'm been vacationing, so my diet is... uhm... XD). Yea, it actually helps me, your problem is actually, yea, your balance. That's something that can only be learned.

I'm 6'1'', and I have very few problems with balance. Few as in, once in a year maybe. For me, I just sometimes need to bend over a bit to remain balanced. The thing is, on crossovers, I typically double step, or do small step movements. I've been told that my feet move at small rates. I dont stomp all around and give it all I got. I lightly step, and move tightly(as opposed to having wide movements to hit the arrows).

Maybe you're just moving too much. Could that be the case?

I'm talking about more of doubles play then single play. I actually think that being tall in singles play is actually a plus. To me its less leg movement ratio to body.
But seriously I played Faxx doubles and jebsus how the hell are you supposed to run across the board and back without heavy adjusting. At least the earlier maxs are at least do-able on doubles, without balance issues.

I'm 6' 3" (190 lbs) and have have no trouble with balance. I do use a really refined flat-footed play style though.

As for doubles play, being tall is definitely a bonus.

Being tall usually means you have longer legs and thus don't have to move as much. But when you do have to move, it probably (now I'm just guessing here) requires more balance because of the higher center of gravity.

being tall helps, for all the reasons above mentioned. easier access to the bar too, enabling you to do the hardest songs without fear of falling on your face. i'm thinking anything between 6'2" and 6'6", any taller and you'll feel like you're playing on a kids pad...

I dont think height, and weight really have to do with DDR at all, its all skill, and you just got to keep playing to get better at it, aand to stop getting cramps (inever get cramps unless its ITG now). Like I am 5' 7" and 110 pounds (dont point out I am that is underwight, I know it is.) It nevr efects my gameplay, or my friends (who are taller and bigger then me).

I have an idea. Stay in the middle. Body stays in the middle, left hand on the left bar, right hand on the right bar, and just move your legs. I'm not sure how tall you have to be with this scenario, but I've seen it done. Also, if pads are sensitive that's a plus because it's overall less movement with your feet, and easier to just lightly tap it and it responds.

Try that out. Tell me how that works.

Maybe for you, but Neokaze is having trouble with it. Help him with techniques. How do you play doubles?

I'll try that next time i play the two handed bar stuff. I've seen the maxes doubles being raped like that. Idk though for me using the bar feels totally akward.
Oh examples of the things I had trouble with is himawari, Daiken...kai(god I forgot the name of that song and I play it alot), Those two asaki songs (specially that drum roll one), Love <3 Shine. Those are some off the top of my head. I can pass them but it's just after I lose my balance then bam I lose like 3 steps and I get angry.
For some damn reason himawari I just lose my balance or I go into the double tap with one foot. Daikenkai seriously wtf at the end are you forced to double tap or is my positioning like really off. I mean singles you are supposed to I guess doubles too. Love <3 Shine I just do poorly on it balance and everything.
Yet doing something like candy, eotc, csfilsm, No13, A, Happy Angel doesn't bother me too much.

I just remembered something how would you do jam jam reggae using the bars?

well, considering that in under 30 minutes I learned how useful the bar can be and how to use it without making it a crutch, I think you'll figure it out soon.

I also passed Paranoia Survivor Heavy (on singles) while still getting used to that bar, making it the fourth 10-footer I've cleared on pad (Sakura [both on CS and AC no bar], then Chaos [both Heavy and Oni, on CS], than PS [only on AC, since I can't last through it without the damn bar], all singles).

and I'm a tall stick figure. nearing 6 feet and only 120lbs no matter how much I eat.

I just thought of this today:
Before I get to the point, one of the things that I'm concerned about is not just how well you play, but how good you look playing (the D's in DDR means DANCE people). As I am among the 98% of the people who don't look cool while playing, I look up to the one person I know who is able to look "cool" while perfect attacking (he's actually an administrator on this site). The interesting thing is that he's pretty short. I'm beginning to believe that this may be the reason why he is able to retain such great posture since he'll have to look up at the screen. As for me and my taller friends who play, we would have to dip our heads low and slouch in order to read the arrows. In this case, I would rather be short, or get the screen raised somehow.
