Specifically, the raised inserts are loose and out of place.
Any suggestions?

Of course, be careful and think about how you cut it open.

So far, I just duct taped the foam together. Actually, I just reused the last foam from the previous 3.0. Also, the new one is the one that came in the black box.

You can't see it too well in this picture, but you can tell that the raised insert moved around because the arrow is darker in some places than others.
Tools I used. Take off the gloves once you start duct-taping.
I cut along here. to make these sort of flaps (the Down one should be twice the size of the others!)...
...which you see here on the cut-open pad, inserts askew.
How I duct-taped the insert to the flap...
...and repeated on all 4 sides. Up arrow's a little tricky.
And it's duct-taped back together. Truth be told, it barely worked from the start and doesn't work now. But that's just me. As for your problem, Vic, it seems that it all depends on cutting the thing open really carefully.

My 2.0 will occasionally mis-fire. Can this be done on a 2.0 too? It's my only pad remaining and I feel like shit since I threw away my 3.0 when I could have easily done this.
EDIT- This is a pretty good thread. It's definitely worthy to be kept open and others locked. :P

If it's shitty, try opening it anyway.

Ok I have owned a Red Octane Ignition pad for about a year now, with mild play, and I just got into DDR seriously =P. So I take the pad out of its box, and noticed the up arrow was freaking up, I messed around in Test Input and figured out when another key is pressed, sometimes the up button will randomly be held down. Since it sometimes does this when I hit down, left, or right, I was thinking some wires got crossed, and it wasen't the sensors. But I opened it up to check the wires and the foam...
First, when I first bough the pad I was to lazy to put it back in the box, and it had nowhere to lay flat, so I just left it standing up for months on end, with very mild play, so now the foam is bent... And when I push down on some parts of the foam, other parts (especialy around the top arrow) push up... So I took out the foam, it works perfectly.
Any ideas on what to do? If my foam gets bent this bad is it shot? Anyone had this problem before? and know any ways to fix it? My two options I see are reinforcing the foam so that it stays straight, or pressing the foam down for several days.
Also is it hurting the pad to play on it without the foam? I would doubt it but just wanted to check, don't want to break it any more then it is now =P.
Edit...
Duh, I flipped the foam, it works like new, ugh spent like 3 hours trying to flatten it under stuff, I fell dumb now ><. If anyone else is having similar problems definatly try this before cutting it up =P.
