No joke. He actually means the Velcro patches INSIDE the pad.

The CF uses Velcro strips inside to separate the arrow pad contacts and the contact base of each arrow.

CF pads have a tendency to crack down the middle after a lot of use. I suggest getting a piece of 1/4" or thicker plywood from your local hardware store. Ask them to cut it to 4'x4' and put that down under your pad if you're playing on carpet. This prevents the pad from warping as much as it would on carpet. Plus, you get a sturdier playing surface to dance on. I also added grip tape to the bottom of the pad and top of the plywood so it wouldn't move around. It works great.

Well since it is a CF, wouldn't I not have to worry about the pad warping anyways? I've used it a lot but nothing has changed since I first took it out of the box.

I don't know about the new versions, but mine had these small little Velcro blocks on the bottom of the pad; one in each corner. This gave it a "stick" effect so that the pad won't move as much when you play songs that require a shit ton of body movement. And I just want to say that I think I did run that bloody pad over with my car and it still ran perfectly fine.
