In layman's terms, I play songs and move alot more than usual, I let my body flow naturally with the patterns. It's hella fun, at least for me

My cousin usually gets bored with DDR and only plays the so-good steps of butterfly (1st Mix) and the upswing mix of the said music...

If you're still barely passing 14's, then you've got a while to go before calling DDR boring. | This is what I'm saying. If you were to play every song in Supernova 2 alone on singles and doubles and mastered the song on your first try, you would have to play nonstop for 20.6 hours. This means no one in line, no rest between songs and you fly through the menus super fast. Yeah, DDR's formula will never change. Neither will racing games, sports games, shooting games or fighting games. It's getting better and better at each song, learning how to best turn and step certain parts of a song (it took me nearly 4 or 5 games to nail the turns in Groove Doubles Heavy). Set up your own goals. Try to at least AA every singles and/or doubles song. Ok you're better than that? AAA them then. Try to get a full combo in a nonstop course (this can get really addictive. Try to full marvelous combo a song. Try to learn a song on stealth. There's a lot that can be done in DDR beyond simply MA/PAing every song.

For me, the arcade is about the experience. I've gotten to chill with some pretty cool people when I go to play Pump at the mall, or when I go to the bowling alley to play some DDR. Plus there's not neighbors who get pissed off about it.
Really, no arcade games are that boring to me. I can go there with some friends, play some games with them, then just do whatever. The arcade is really a great way to spend a day out.

Marketplace Rating: 1 | DDR Legacy Sure DDR is losing its flair, but that doesn't mean that DDR is boring. After DDRMAX2: Dance Dance Revolution 7thMIX, Dancemania licensing on the later DDR games has been greatly decreased.
DDR is old, I grant you, but it is not boring if you play it right. Throughout my DDR-hood, I've played DDR1stMIX AC, DDR 3rdMIX Korean v1 and v2 AC, DDR 3rdMIX PLUS, DDR4thMIX PLUS, DDR4thMIX PLUS SOLO, DDR Solo 2000, DDR5thMIX AC, DDRMAX AC, DDRMAX2 AC, DDREXTREME AC, and DDR SuperNOVA AC. I must admit that I've played every song on these games on nearly all difficulties. I loved playing these machines in the arcades because I'd get a crowd....well, at least before DDR got sooooo popular that bystanders would just walk by and say "yeah I heard of that game before", which was around the EXTREME -> SuperNOVA transition (well, at least for me).
So now at home, I own all mainstream arcade CS releases of DDR; I don't play Stepmania or Dance With Intensity because I prefer to play with a great arcade experience at home. I'd pop in some DDR2ndREMIX and warm up on the classics, then pop in some DDR3rdMIX and DDR4thMIX and freestyle like I WOULD NOT do in the arcades (too shy, plus I'd be laughed at XD), then later pop in some DDR Extra Mix and shake my booty and start moving my body in so many different ways, lol....great workout simply freestyling nonetheless, haha!
Next, I'd pop in DDRMAX: Dance Dance Revolution 6thMIX and start playing a bit more serious due to the more challenging charts, and I'd still freestyle; the music is great here, I usually play Flash In The Night, Fantasy, Yozora no Muko, and Witch Doctor (GIANT TOONS VERSION) at least once almost every time I put that game in.
I'd then pop in DDRMAX2: Dance Dance Revolution 7thMIX or DDREXTREME to play next. DDRMAX2's songlist is always appealing to me even after all these years; it just reminds me so much of the times when it was actually easier to find a MAX2 machine. DDREXTREME is good, but when I play, I have to be sure NOT to play DDRMAX or DDRMAX2 beforehand because I'd be spoiled of Dancemania and get easily bored with EXTREME. I also have DDR Party Collection, but I usually only pop it in to play PARANOiA ~Respect~ and the other few new songs.
When I pop in DDRSuperNOVA, I realize that freestyling is easiest and more effective on Basic difficulty, as the difficulty has spiked up. The songlist, I don't want to get into...we all know that it has tons of BEMANI crossovers and new/unusual licensed music, which is quite a different feel from past DDR games. But I play the game nonetheless; freestyling is still fun though----Star Gate Heaven and the remix are both highly fun to freestyle to. I could almost effectively freestyle GORGEOUS 2012 (Expert) and still pull off a AA, rofl.
DDRSuperNOVA2 is the latest CS release I own (yeah I'm gonna get DDR X CS someday) and I find it better than SN1 musically, but stepcharts have been getting pretty retarded with the 'red' songs, but that's only natural when you wanna increase difficulty....lol @ DEAD END ("GROOVE RADAR" Special), but it was a joke chart anyways.
I'm pretty old skool and I spend less time playing DDR EXTREME CS and up than the older releases because I simply have more excitement playing the older games. It gets pretty nostalgic for me when I play the older games too........hearing the announcer's transitions: DDR1st-DDR2nd
"C'mon!"
"Hot!"
"Wow! That was the best dance ever! Are you a professional dancer!?"
"That wasn't even a real dance, you can do better!"
"No, it's not good! You really wanna...DANCE?!" DDR3rd-DDR5th
"Are you ready? Give it your best shot!"
"Show me your performance~!"
"Please do not make me sad anymore" *shutters slam* XD
"Oh GOD! OH GOD!!" (SSS on 3rdMIX only)
"Get off the stage!"
"Did you eat breakfast today?"
"Let's see your energy!" DDR Solo 2000
"Woooooooo!!"
"Gohhh! That was great, you are real dance machine!"
"Readyyyyyyyy Dance!!" DDRMAX-DDRSuperNOVA2 (not in DDR X, right?)
"UMA UMA!"
"You are S~UPREME!"
"Wha-Wha-Whaaaat?!"
"Oh My God!"
"Nooooooooooooo~ooo~oooo!"
"!!! ONE THOUSAND COMBOS!!!!!!!" (love it everytime xD)
"I loved your dance (?); I can't stop crying...buckets of tears....ohhh *sobs*"
....reliving the experience at home (especially with the older games) just keeps me going especially because you can hardly find the older machines anymore. From the MS Paint animations of Captain Jack to the needles and pills (drugs) of Together & Forever ("take the way to paradiiise~"), I love everything Konami of Japan has offered us both in AC and at home. I know the original Afronova background pic was based off Reese Witherspoon...I don't think they asked her permission for that, xD, but I wonder what they based Drill Instructor's background image off of...? 3rdMIX PLUS is my favorite machine.
