Marketplace Rating: 0 | DDR Machine w/ playstation inside? I've been looking into buying a DDR Extreme machine and I came across one that has the PCB replaced with a playstation(idk if its a ps1 or ps2). They seller says it works the exact same (coins up, ect), but I am highly doubtful of that.
Has anyone ever heard of this? Does the machine really operate the same? Would I still be able to convert it to a Stepmania machine?

Marketplace Rating: 13 | It's a PS2. An arcade at a Six Flags near me had one once. I sent an email to Konami about it. Magically, it was gone the next time I showed up.

Marketplace Rating: 2 | you can easily convert it to a stepmania machine if the seller did not fuck around with the wires to much. It should be pretty easy, you can check the DDR Simulation forum for a how to.
I saw that machine on ebay... I think only the pads are official, the actual cabinet is a knock off that someone built (or at least thats what it looks like).
Also I dont think those are even the arcade pads. Just a heads up, beware if you are interested in that machine.
if anyone is interested this is what he is talking about... DANCE DANCE REVOLUTION 8TH MIX EXTREME ARCADE GAME - eBay (item 310054312648 end time Jun-03-08 16:53:27 PDT)

Marketplace Rating: 0 | yeah i noticed the machine looked kind of sketchy. but my local namco arcade used to have a machine that looked very similar. They replaced the konami buttons with their own custom buttons + they replaced the lights up top with different lights ( the same ones in the one on ebay). Also, the panels were switched out to the exact same ones as those on ebay.
The machine worked fine and everything, but Namco was cheap and replaced the parts of the machine with these"homemade" ones I guess.
I don't really care about cosmetics as much as internals though. I just haven't heard of a ps2 being replaced with a PCB. Does it still have all 300ish songs?

Also that is the exact definition of the arcade machine in my mall, it has namco parts... which are shit, and dont work.

I've known 3 different machines with that method running PSX's DDR 3rd Mix.

Marketplace Rating: 0 | I disagree, at least if you have the time/effort/money to fix it up, make the pds not crap-tastic, possibly mod the PS2 to run JP PS2 games or replace it with a PC running Stepmania and/or DDR (1st or 2nd mixes) in MAME, maybe SM3.95 w/ ITG2 theme/music/vids.

Marketplace Rating: 8 | again, assuming this is one of the namco cabinets, the input delay from the pads makes songs unplayable, and the pads themselves are of the lowest quality i have ever played on
but if you think it's worth it, go for it

Again, I mentioned most of the work that needs to be done to make it at least decent / it would only be worth it for those who can do all of that. I think most would be better off making thier own cab for much cheaper, with far less of the quality issues.
It is indeed a namco machine. The input buttons, pads, "Here We Come" on the top of the front (above the monitor), and color scheme give it all away.

these pads are similar to if not worse than tx1000s
to answer your question, yes it is probably convertible to stepmania. would you want to? no. everything about this cabinet is terrible and unofficial and you definitely do not want to own one.

but if you think it's worth it, go for it | I am seconding this. The one at my mall uses namco sensors, and it makes the game very hard to play. Also expect the sensors to die VERY fast.

And seriously that is the most bootleg piece of shit ever.
But if you can't find a real cab for that price I dunno you might wanna get it.
I wouldn't though. | |
