I have a non-official DDR hard pad. Well, more like a plastic pad. It's called ... DDR DanceStation or something. Anyway, I plugged it into my PS2 to try it out, and the buttons on the arrows light up, but the presses are not detected. I'm wondering if there's something special I have to do to get it to work, or if it will only work with PS1 games or hardware. Can anyone help? Here's some pictures I took. The pad's actually well built, but I'm too uh... heavy for it (the box says that it supports a maximum weight of 90kg, or around 180 pounds.)
And yes, the box was like that when I got it. :P Thanks.
I don't really trust your dancepad. Maybe it's the mispelling of "station" on the box or something else, but it looks pretty shady to me. Try getting a dancepad from a reliable company like Red Octane or something.
Where'd you get it? Most likely it was busted up in shipping or previous use, to judge by the box. You could try to open it up, as previously mentioned, but honestly iit doesn't look like the pad's constructed in a way that would allow it to survive heavy play for more than a brief time anyway.

I generally buy used stuff at the flea markets near my home and resell things on eBay. I picked up this pad last year, a long time before I got a PS2 (I just got one two weeks ago or so.) I bought it for whenever I bought a PS2, and now I have one. And it doesn't work right. The box was just as mangled as it looks there.
EverZeroX: Well, it's a cheapy Chinese knockoff, of course it's shady as heck. I'm trying to sell it locally, because it's quite heavy. The pad is made up of four sections which slide together (and they did so so well that I -can't- unlock them now!) and all four platforms connect to each other using what appears to be phone wires. Yeah.
I already have a couple of soft dance mats, but I don't really play DDR anymore. I do want to get a hard pad, but not now.
