Default DDR and the Playstations PocketStation?

I remember hearing about this a while ago, that there was some form features unlocked by using the PSX peripheral, but never quite figured out what exactly it was, I happen to own 4th Mix, but no Pocket Station, so I can't quite do this myself, does anyone know anything on this subject?

DDR 3rd, 4th, and 5th mix are listed on there but it doesn't say anything. I bet it wasn't songs or anything major.

The screen wills spin and battle music will start to play. You and drunk friends will be forced to stand in a line rocking back and forth holding over sized swords. A group of retarded looking monsters will appear and you will take turns hitting each other. When it is all over you will get 648 Gil and a fire ring. Why the 12 foot tall monster with no hands had a fire ring that fits everyone from you to your grandma will still be mystery to man.

I didn't know it did anything for 5th Mix. I should screw around with that when I get home. For 3rd Mix, the PocketStation stuff allowed you to send messages and crap. It probably would have more meaning if there were other people I knew who actually had one. It was an alternate way to unlock certain things besides playing X number of songs.

So would it unlock songs by default as a bonus for having the extra hardware? Or was there some form of a mini-game you would play?

Messages? I'm not quite sure I follow you, could you expand a bit?

I seem to be unable to find my source that explained what unlocked what with the pocketstation, so maybe I imagined it. However, I did find a DDRFreak FAQ that has a section about it. Seems that you could preview edits, and send messages from Pocketstation to Pocketstation.

Memory Card Article

EDIT: OK, so you won't be hearing anything from me until maybe tomorrow. My job is being gay lately, and I've got to pull some hours getting this project done.

I have seen some of thoose, I was gont to say you can view edits.

If it used as a memory card, maybe you could use it on an arcade machine as well.

Combining my knowledge of the PocketStation with the article that I linked earlier, I can come up with my best guess that I will attempt to confirm possibly today (and if not, definitely tomorrow).

You can load a tool along with your Edit Data so you can preview your edits on the PocketStation screen. Since it's capable of sending and receiving information using the IR stuff on the end, you can send messages (prepared earlier using 3rd Mix's PocketStation interface) to other people with a PocketStation and the Pocket Message set up.

That's probably it. I'll at least be able to screw around with the Edit Data feature, but I won't be able to do much with the Message feature until another friend of mine picks up a PocketStation.

you could view your edits, as well as edit nonstop courses for 3rd and 4th mix, it also unlocked mini games for your ps. the link data from the cs verisons unlocked songs and also had an edit databank. i still have mine, it was fucking chill.
