Default DDR - a sport?

I am curious about what people think of DDR as a new sport and if it is a possibility. I have seen petitions and have heard that it is an official sport in Norway.

Yeah it is a sport in Norway, and i definitely think it has potential to be a sport here. I know Phrekwenci has been petitioning for a while now about DDR becoming a sport.

It'd be nice.

How would they do a pro league though if it was? So many people can already play heavy and beat 10 footers. I guess they will compete by playing random songs on shuffle and by freestyle routines.

If there were major and minor leagues, I think I'd might fit at the lower tier of the minor leagues compared to the rest of NY.

Well, having many schools in the country (including all of West Virgina) use DDR in P.E. is a good start...too bad DDR hadn't broke mainstream when I was in school.

I'm thinking of starting a DDR club at my school. Hopefully we'll have a lot of people join and play. However, I only know a couple of other players who are quite good but none who can do 10-footers. I can't beat the last planet on the stellar master mode for supernova because i can only do a couple of them and no one else can help.

This whole concept would be a lot better if it weren't locked to the songs that Konami makes. I think dancing games as a sport may be nice on paper but you can only get so good on the songs. One of the things about a sport is the ability to push the sport further and further. As long as you're working within the confines of what Konami produces then you can forget about pushing anything anywhere.

Then, ideally speaking, an agreement of some kind could be entered with Konami. They'd love it, because it means a good source of revenue AND advertisement. Fans would love it, because it would mean there would be new mixes on a consistent basis.

Too bad it'll probably never happen.

Well, to do that, you would hold the sporting tournaments on ITG.

But I wouldn't hold it past Konami to be able to sue ESPN.

DDR is certainly more of a sport than being in a flag-core, like girls in my school claim.

I would say ITG should be the sport-game, but since is now in ownership of Konami, not much you can do with that one.

Konami would have no reason to sue ESPN, don't say dumb and uninformed things like this.

For world ranking and competition, there's a system in place for PIU which you can see at piugame.com that establishes a multinational club system... it's not perfect (in fact, the requirements are a little too strict IMO) but you can see how a world tournmanent kind of thing would look like or how representatives from countries would be determined.

Konami could also do something like this for the world, and the US, Japan, and Europe have enough strong playerbase to pull off something like a world competition... I don't know if they will, since I hear the other Bemanis are doing better than DDR in the homeland (Japan)... but you never know.

It's cause they took so damn long to get Super Nova out. I used to be one of the best PAers in the US (I would say around top 10) and quit because Extreme got so boring.
