Yeah, uh, you really don't need to go beyond 1.5x for the most part.

I'd understand if it's meant for skill or to show off to go any higher though.

Voted no; mainly because its main purpose is to make gameplay easier to maximize the enjoyment of the game (similar in fashion to speed mods, noteskins, and Mini [though the latter only applies to ITG, obviously]).

I can see how somebody could see this mod as cheating (seeing as it does make reading the charts easier as I said before), but the only instance in which this would really matter is during tournaments (which usually have regulations on mods anyway).

1. It can't be cheating if the programmers PUT IT IN THERE IN PLAIN SIGHT and doesn't require some unorthdox button input/sequence to put in.

2. It's meant to make the arrows stand out from the background.

Speed mods is cheating?
I use 3x, Mirror, Reverse & Flat.
So am I cheating?
I dont think so.
I only use these for a challenge.
As for the screen filter I think its good they added it.

I also see the screen filter for people who are not too interested in any background animation and whatnot (almost slightly similar to where BM IIDX for the PS2 has option to decrease movie brightness or something).

So yeah, the added option is there.

And conversely, you don't have to use it if you don't want to (like me )

In short, the option is there for you to use in what way you want if you want it.

I primarily use 3x on most songs, but don't get me wrong; i don't suck if use anything below that. I can still SDG regularly for the most part.

It's just that 3x is my personal preference, just like using the bar is my personal preference. Can I play something without the bar and do well?

Of course.

Do I like to?

No, not really.

If people look down on my skill because of that, so be it. *shrugs*

no, that's fine if it is a preference

when it becomes a crutch and you can't even pass songs 1x that you can AAA 3x, that is a problem

Simple logic answers this question: this is Dance Dance, not Background Background, Revolution. The challenge is the tempo and placement of arrows, not trying to pick them out visually from a background that makes it hard to see them. The fact that some songs have this problem is a lack of foresight on Konami's part; I'm sure the normal vivid arrows on 1x look just fine against the backgrounds on some developer's PC screen--they just forgot to check how it would look on an arcade screen, with different speed and color (cough, solo) mods. I have the same problem with SN2 AC's solo arrows; they fucking translucent, so they flat out disappear completely on a lot of backgrounds. If I wanted invisible arrows, I'd pick the fucking Stealth option...

Heh good point.

P.S. (Slightly-off topic)
Still I've never tried uber-slow songs on x1 speed (only remember doing My Summer Love expert on x1.5 flat on an SN2 machine)

Hopefully I'd be able to give it a shot at those kinds of songs next time (and I hope that I don't get any DANGER/WARNING for that).

So bag and orion 78, I'm watching you
