I dunno, Mars War 3 was on the default list, and it's a 12 on Expert.

You'd think they would realize that high prices like that aren't worth it in this economy. We'd have bought HP3 if it weren't for the high price, even at PFD time.

Welcome to 2003. DDRMAX2 USA says hi...
...and so does just about every American home version released since then. Even when SuperNOVA AC came out, there were barely any new 8s and 9s.

I could now start a 15-page essay on DDR's gameplay not changing much, the advent of ITG, and how I thought Konami should have done something with that franchise... but that's been done before, it's off-topic and nobody would want to read it anyway, heh.

Bottom line: if you're still buying console releases of this game, I don't think you're doing it because you want more challenge. I think anyone still buying new console DDR is either 1) someone just discovering the franchise, or 2) someone who just enjoys the game, wants more of it and wants to support the series. I guess that Konami feels there are enough folks in those categories combined to justify continued releases.

BTW, if you look only at Konami-published games at VGChartz, you'll see MGS4 at number 1 and the recent Saw games behind it. Filling out the top 10 is pretty much all DDR and Rock Revolution (with its $5 price tag). These games have long tails, and maybe that's the real reason they continue to release them.

I buy ddr console releases because I have the others, i don't even really enjoy playing them as much and when i do play them I only really enjoy the crossovers.

I just buy them hoping they will change their ways one day, realize we are wanting something more. And like yyr said do something with the ITG franchise, hopefully intergrade some of it into ddr. but i doubt that will ever happen, so i guess ill just deal with what i have.

I stopped buying after SN2US. I got EXJP and SN2JP and havent had a need to touch US versions after that.

Not even gonna waste a DVD-R on X2.

One should try the newer games before instantly dismissing them as "not good enough". You might be surprised, I've heard one review on YouTube which said HP3 can be challenging. And I've seen charts for X2 songs, they look quite hard!

And in the end, DDR is still a good workout on higher difficulties.

I hope it costs them virtually nothing to develop these games any more, because that's probably about what they're getting back on them.
Rounding it up, $20 x 6,709=$134,180
Rounding again, $70 x 4244=$297,080

My math might be off, but it looks like they pulled in a better profit from HP3 than they did HP2.

X2 is good guys, don't dismiss it.

This is coming from the guy who thinks X US is the worst DDr since Extreme US.

I have tried them and im not a fan. It just has a more generic feel with each new mix that comes out. There hasn't been a mix that has kept me interested for a long time since Extreme, and the only reason i'll ever play SN is because there's almost no good Extremes here.

SN2 was close to keeping me wanting to play but I eventually got bored of it.

I like around half of the KOs and some licenses with each version after Extreme, with SN2 as an exception since I love them all. Extreme was the last feel-good version for me....but the newer ones at least have some degree of worth with the new KOs. (I just didn't like X's crappy "urban" KOs)

I buy DDR to see if the songs are challenging for myself. I don't determine a songs challenge by youtube video because once I start dancing to it myself, it is harder than the video made it. :[ But I also like to just have them. -shrugs- Since my mom likes to borrow my DDR games every now and then.

Newer games always bring a newer feel. D: Though I guess one's mileage may vary there, huh? I started with the HP series for DDR, though I heard some of the older DDR songs. People like what they start with most of the time...

On the KOs of these three games, though...I can see why everyone hates Pluto the First. I love that song, but dear god...that chart. D8 At least HP3 didn't get shock arrows...

:'D I started with DDR MAX2 / EXTREME was around for home consoles for the US. So I'm kind of use to the old style of DDR but I am always willing for change as long as the music is good. That's all that matters to me. ]: DDR HP = fail. I have that game.. And it's in my closet.

I agree. I started on a 3rd Korean V2, and really thought the Euro licenses were great and the "catastrophic" songs were the right balance of difficult: the chart was nonstop pace (no gaps) while not being repetitive (ie let's put ANOTHER crossover and make it real fast). IMO Dancemania licenses were best because they were actually danceable and catchy.

I understand that, given the resource constraints and shifts in music popularity, they have changed the game to include more mainstream tracks and "dumbed down" the overall difficulty of most charts, save the boss songs. I'll admit, there are a few pretty good expert charts on X2, but they aren't for the licensed tracks. The quality of some of the KOs is really good too, but then there are tracks like new Dynamite Rave and new Keep on Movin' that make me question why even update them at all? Overall, X2 is better than SN2 by far and better than X in terms of KOs, but the overall quality doesn't compare to older releases like 3rd mix or MAX JP.

On a different subject, has anyone completely uncovered the pictures in Request Mode and do you actually get anything for doing so? I have most of the pictures uncovered but the thought of having to complete DMM, especially those marvelous attack ones, makes me reconsider if the reward is something like a URL link for a wallpaper.

I'll give you a dollar for each one you share. That's almost a reward. :P
... kidding.

So request mode missions are all done in DMM? And you hafta complete the whole thing to fully get all the pictures? o_o Should almost make someone do that anyway... I can never finish mission mode when it's actually hard. >_>
