Default DS at parties

Hello,

Where I live there isn't an arcade within easy reach so my friends and me like to play DDR/DS on our consoles at home.

Does anyone else like to get their dancemat out at parties? It's a great way to get people dancing and you get some quality comedy moments.

Also, are there many other non-arcade players here?

For the first year I played I played 99% at home, but now I almost always drive to the arcade 10 minutes from my house to play despite owning a CF, nearly all JP and US release and a good stepmania set-up.

We do often play late at night or at big get-togethers, DDR is a good party game as long as you're not hanging with a crowd that's big on being a dick to anything not "cool."

Totally agree about too-cool-for-dancemat types!

We did have someone at Christmas who thought it was funny to put holly on one of the pads when my brother was playing without his shoes - ouch!

On my 13th birthday I think I'll try to yank a second pad and hook it up. Then maybe I could whoop all of my cousins. ^_^

(except maybe one, who's also rather good)

DDR is a good party game, but recently at my get togethers it's been upstaged by Taiko, Para and Pop'n (now that I have my ASC). Still, we play it pretty often. Actually, come to think of it, parties are one of the few things that really gets me playing DDR these days...

We usually play DDR or ITG whenever there are parties over here, but it doesn't always hold everyone's interest and we always end up doing something else.

One thing that is really fun to do, however, is getting a projector and playing games on that. We've played DDR, ITG, and Rez on the side of my house at night, and it's really pretty amazing with a decent sound system (especially Rez).

That does sound sick.

As I've said before, Rez is the only videogame that mandatorily needs to be played on a better sound system than you can afford.

I brought DDR and ITG to a halloween party (friend's request) once.
I was the burger king (hence the avatar), and now my friends have a cellphone video of the dancing burger king. Its hard to do 10+'s in a mask, gets really humid.

No one plays on my Flux unless they play in socks or they fit in my DDR shoes

When you're playing in a big group, do you find that the non-DDR regualrs play on the licensed pop tracks a lot rather than the Konami originals?
I actually quite like the pop stuff, on Max especially.

yea when im at a party and there is DDR its usually the tracks with vocals.

and since i am leaps and bounds ahead of my frinds who play on light ive learned to play on my hands while my feet are hooked on a chair or the Bar if i decide to do it at the arcade and comedy moments shure do happen like my cousin ripping his pants off as they were to baggy and he stepped on them and riped the waist band. lol suck beat moments.

Which Max? Max JPN, or Max US? 'Cause Max US wins for Take it to the Morning Light, and to a lesser extent Sandstorm (they both have god awful charts though).

I usually bust out DDR all the time at home. Back at my old apartment, me and my roomates always had the ps2 on for all the bored drunks during house parties. DDR and Soul Calibur 2 were usually the only games running.

DDR is one of the greatest party games of all time. bar none.

I also use DDR at home for work outs when I don't feel like going joggin

usually at parties ddr will be running somewhere there, with Cobalt Flux pads from whoever gets around to bringing theirs (me and 4-5 friends have Cobalts). However, now that we know a thing or two about the whole stepmaniaITG thing, we throw simfiles on that, burn the disc, and play that.
