Uh, your only real option on Gamecube is Mario Mix, and that shit's mildly expensive.

I'd say Extreme since it was geared towards everyone & it was the last DDR game to use the "play # of songs, unlock something" method.

I would agree with Max2, the unlock system was straightforward and it had some (at the time) popular and recognizable mainstream songs. After that, I would say Supernova or Supernova 2 because of the amount of recognizable songs, but the unlock system is not beginner-friendly in terms of figuring out how it works.

Marketplace Rating: 0 | Just a warning, Max doesn't have Beginner (but it has enough easy songs for beginners), though Beginner tells you to stay in the middle, which you SHOULDN'T do. Also, it requires you play a CRAPLOAD of songs to unlock everything (500 song plays total to unlock everything).
Max, Max2, & Extreme all have the "play # songs" unlock system, so it'll be easier to unlock songs for newer players.
& the Mario Mix only has about 30-ish songs, though the game IS geared towards people getting into DDR.
Music-wise, I don't know. What kind of music does he like?

I would advise Max because it has a lot of nice songs to start out on, and basically has the how range of levels from "Cutie Chaser" to "Max 300".

Supernova 1 and 2 are not that ebgginer friendly (i know it tkaed me a while to get used to it, even tough i am an experienced DDR player)

Supernova 1 and 2 are not that ebgginer friendly (i know it tkaed me a while to get used to it, even tough i am an experienced DDR player) | The SuperNOVA series would help him get used to the newer background dancer/stage system in the arcades, the newer ES system (he may get good pretty fast, you never know).
The only reason I may shy away from it is the way to unlock the songs in SuperNOVA is kinda complicated for newbies. If you can help him through it though, more power to ya.

Marketplace Rating: 0 | But if you like to make yourself exposed like as if you're playing in an amusement center, why not try playing DDR X (both US and Japan), DDR SuperNOVA Series (only in Japan). But I suggest just try out first DDRMAX2 and DDR EXTREME before you try SuperNOVA and X.

Marketplace Rating: 1 | I would say Mario Mix, but its expensive. Then Max or Max 2. Max 2 is more american leisure player with less good KO's IMO, Max is a bit more KO friendly, and IMO the music is better. Plus its the only way to get 22Dunk Stateside and I believe in the post 4th plus frame rate.
