WHY THE HELL DO ANIME FREAKS LIKE DDR SO MUCH?
There is NO Connection at all between DDR and Anime at all (At least until Konami broke the barrier by putting in DoLL and Xepher, but even before that it was still big...)
What seriously attracts anime fans to ddr? I don't get it. (Not to mention most of them suck, and some how like smile.dk so damn much, even though they are SWEDISH...NOT JAPANESE.)
When I am looking for videos of people playing ddr on youtube, what do I find? A BUNCH OF STUPID ANIME CLIPS WITH DDR SONGS IN THE BACKGROUND!!! What a waste of server space...As far as I know, the person who got me playing DDR over 5 years ago HATES anime, and pretty much would say the same things I do.
I am rather different to anime, I only watch some that are related to things I like such as Street Fighter, but other than that I can't get into it at all. Seriously, is there any one person or group who got DDR popularized with anime freaks?
Yes so I know that many of these kinds of people post here at bemanistyle, but that's just more proof of my point...now I can understand the other bemani games, which have a lot more anime-ish stuff to them...but DDR never had anything like that, until we got DoLL...which is fine since it is only the same video used in IIDX, but no all of sudden anime freaks are like "OMG?! WHAT IS THAT FROM I MUST KNOW!!!111"
I pretty much turn away from any pepople in real life who are like this (just as I will walk off a machine when someone chooses a smile.dk song) thankfully I have only encountered a few of these people in real life....(ex-girlfriend lol).
Even Konami's attempts to "localize" DDR in America and Europe by putting in "popular" songs don't have a big affect in driving these people away. (Although I'm sure Fallout Boy has raised the number of casual teen gamers into DDR, and that is a whole other story...)
I just don't get it, and I don't think I ever will.

it doesn't matter if one is clearly better from a logical standpoint. to them, it's japanese, so it's better.
same as people that don't like driving/racing games but LOVE initial D
because it's japanese

From being one who goes to Anime Conventions, I go more for the Japanese culture aspect of things, rather than anime. It's really rare if I cosplay or even go near an anime at an anime convention.
Basically, it's a Japanese game, so It'll be at an Anime convention, hence, making it so anime fans like DDR.
It's like this with all Bemani games, not just DDR, as well.

Total Tokens: 421.55 Donate Tokens | There isnt any connection really, its just that curiosity of each genre from the public is what appeals to them, and anime and DDR are both alot to be curious about. Anyway, lots of anime fans out there dont like/play/cant be bothered with DDR, just like alot of peeps cannot be bothered to play IIDX, cos play or try sushi. Ive watched anime for ages and loved it, I played DDR for ages and loved it, its just a coinicidence there both from japan, I can say the same about guitar hero and american cartoons also.
Anyway, I can see the popularity with smile.dk though, there not japanese, but they goddamn with they want to be, thats why there so in touch with their anime freinds.

Total Tokens: 105.91 Donate Tokens | So..your problem is with the people that make anime clips for youtube or just the anime fanbase in general? Also, there have been "anime-ish stuff" within DDR since Mix 1 such as the anime-style dancing characters or even some of the trippy old-school background animations. I've been a DDR player for close to eight years now and yes I'm a light anime fan. I attend anime cons to purchase import games first hand and for the gaming room that includes many of Konami's Bemani games. Does that make me any less of a DDR player? For the record I do not buy Japanese games just because they're Japanese. The Japanese market holds many more games that appeal to my taste. It's very rare that I find a U.S. game that I like.
In short, if people are buying DDR games or inserting their coins into the machines..then they have every right to enjoy DDR any way they like with or without your consent.

1. Yeah it's really all those videos, there is nothing wrong with anime, no ones going to hell for liking it or anything.
2. Not all DDR characters are anime style...Afro, Janet, the Disks, Kosento (although he does have a Japanese design style), Rhythm, Blues, etc...
But seriously, I don't know anyone who is a major Japanophile who likes DDR and is actually good at it.
Also, people can explain it to me a billion times, but I'm never going to get the connection with smile.dk and people who love all things Japanese...
Also, I mentioned that my friend who first got me playing DDR long ago dislikes anime...Ironically he LOVES Hentai, and that's about it....

Personally I see no connection between anime and DDR (besides the Doll, Xepher videos, and the recent addition of Baby's Tears- Sky Girls edit to SuperNOVA CS).
I'm not a huge anime fan, it just so happens that some of the television shows I tend to like because of the storyline, artwork, etc are anime. Infact the only anime shows I faithfully watch are Ghost In the Shell and Samurai Champloo. =/
I like DDR because I have found that it helps A LOT with footwork especially for when I play soccer and tennis. I need the extra footwork excersize for those sports and DDR really helps with that foot coordination!
LOL, one thing my tennis coach loves to tell us when we go on vacation is "Hey kids remember to play lots of DDR to get that footwork up!
Thats my take on the DDR-anime connection =/... not much of a connection huh?
