I'm trying to obtain some of my favorite DDR games - in particular, I remember really loving DDRMAX when I played it back in late '03/early '04. (Yeah, I know, behind the times.) I also kinda liked MAX2 and plan to look for it at a later date.
However, I'm not sure whether I played the American version or the Japanese version. I think it was the American one, because I don't remember the complete absence of foot ratings, but I was enough of a newbie that I might not have noticed.
My question is: what are the differences between the two versions? In particular, are the songlists different? Does anyone really love one version and really hate the other? I ask because the US version is readily available, but the Japanese version seems to be very hard to find, and I'd like to know whether it's worth trying to track it down.

DDRMAX ANCE DANCE REVOLUTION is very much different than the Japanese version which is the same as the Arcade version of the game DDRMAX ANCE DANCE REVOLUTION 6th MIX.
The song list on DDRMAXUS is this: http://www.ddrfreak.com/versions/songlist.php?mix=77
The song list on DDRMAXJP(6thMIX) is this: http://www.ddrfreak.com/versions/songlist.php?mix=76
The USMAX song list is a bit longer, and with throw back songs from older DDR mixes where as JPDDRMAX is every song from the arcade
If you want the JP version of DDRMAX, either import it or torrent it. Its the only way youll get it on these shores.

But yeah, the song list in both of them are completely different. If you played both you can tell.

just saying, but ill help as much as I can before that happens. DDRMAX2 had more Arcade songs on it, but more US exclusives started finding there way into the game. DDRMAX2: DANCE DANCE REVOLUTION 7th MIX was again just like the arcade version

If you have any suggestions on where I can pick up an import copy, they'd be much appreciated - 6th seems to be kicking around Play-Asia, but at a ridiculous price, and 7th is nowhere.
For future reference, where do questions like this go? (I'd like to think I've asked all the dumb questions I need to, but you never know...)

The only thing similar between U.S. and JP games up until EXTREME were the names and the graphical engines (barring Festival). That is all.

I got mine new for about $60, but that was 3 years ago.
Though you should check ebay once in awhile or maybe in the marketplace on here or DDRFreak.

Slinking off in shame in 3... 2... 1... | Hey, don't be ashamed. You asked in the correct forum. The only way this topic'll be locked is after your questions are answered and any issues are solved. The mods just seal topics in this chunk of board from time to time to keep token-whoring from arising.

Total Tokens: 421.55 Donate Tokens | There are some key facts missing:-
DDRMAX US Added the foot ratings, DDRMAX JP remained to leave these out.
Unless your shop stocks foreign games, you wont find it in the shops.
DDRMAX2 JP is not a direct arcade port although it trys to be, there are lots of songs missing, even some of the liecences.......
DDRMAX JP had a few extra songs then the arcade, not much so the song list is rather short.
DDRMAX JP and Party Collection are PS2 games that are copied onto normal CD's, not DVD's, most likely due to their short songlists. DDRMAX US is on a DVD.
You most likely just played the US versions, the theme for each same named games are the same.
The US versions had alot of offical music videos, unsure about the JP games, I think they just had the generic vids for each game.
