DS is just the European name for DDR, so naturally it also has the same setup.

There are other forms of DDR, like Solo, which uses 6 panels (UDLR and Upper right/left diagonal)
Pop'n isnt a dance game, you hit buttons on a panel thing in sequence to music.

Marketplace Rating: 0 | About the DDR and ITG differences:
On top of the difference in difficulty, hands, mines and rolls, most songs are about 15-20 seconds longer in length.
ITG's Marathon courses are a pre-determined set of songs (like DDR's Nonstop), usually with scripted mods; and Survival courses are similar to that, only you have to "beat the clock" with on-beat steps.
Also, ITG uses what would be an equivalent of Marvelous timing in normal play. The scoring system is very different, it uses a percentage system as opposed to "machine score". The highest grade of 100.00% gives a **** rating.
There are other differences too, such as how to unlock songs, but I think I've pretty much covered the basics.

Anyways, DDR is great, its original and fun. You may love it so much, you may start importing like me and everyone else.

Marketplace Rating: 0 | DDR, IMO, has better music. It's shorter than ITG's, but better. There only a few ITG songs that are really cool.
As everyone else said, itg is waaaaay harder, almost all ITG players use the bar, except that Pickles guy. ITG may be intimidating to newbies at ddr. If you really love ddr, buy imports. I want extreme jp.

8 panels, *put DDR and Pump together and remove the center button* that is geared towards freestyling.
I'm really not sure what you’re trying to ask though? There are plenty of dancing games of varied degrees of obscurity.
As for ITG vs. DDR (oh no here it goes again). I believe you'll find that ITG is more of an actual progression of the 4 panel dance games. By using the stepmania modifiers, freeze rolls, and mines, the style of gameplay begins to set itself apart from its DDR roots.
DDR has been nearly dead in the water (in terms of progress) since DDR Extreme. Konami hasn't really done much with the series for years, and it is believed they intended to finish the series with Extreme. However due to the growing sales of the Home releases in America, they have recently started to take a more active interest in their series.
You'll find that ITG isn't Japanese styled at all *it’s an American based game* and many people are turned off by that fact. ITG's music is largely focused on in house music of the EDM genre, and DDR's focuses on the same Konami Originals (dare it call it a genre ) style of songs that they have been using for years in all of their Bemani games. The difficultly in the steps takes an extreme jump in ITG, and I believe an argument could be made that DDR is more newb friendly.
Many of the top players have moved onto ITG, and it is growing in popularity as limited home releases of DDR, and 1 bad attempt at an arcade mix are all we have seen from Konami since 2000.
There are pro's and con's to both games, yet each still has it place and both are good games.

Hio said it best, but I do want to add that if what you're looking for is a comprehensive list of dancing games, you might try Wikipedia. And if you also want to learn about non-dancing music games (like Pop'n Music), try Wikipedia again!
Wikipedia obscura for the win.
