*in reference to the first three

It's called a theme. They were the first three NMR songs, which all appeared in the same game (I think they did anyway).

As for the other ones...never even heard of those songs, but yeah, that looks like laziness to me.

You're not the only one to notice. Keep in mind, though, you're talking about the early days of DDR here. To cut some costs in trying to move the games to different territories, Konami reused some graphics overseas (Dub-I-Dub's graphics became Uh La La La in Europe, same for Get Up'N Move to It's Like That.)

A fun fact: Uh La La La is quite possibly the song given the least attention in all of DDR/DS. Not only did it get the short end of the stick on graphics, but it actually has a single note where nobody checked the stepchart before release, and so the earliest recorded "hand" appears near the end of the song.

oh shit so that IS supposed to be there... I thought it was just a mistake by the people from ddruk.com when I got the DS pack from there. Nice, you learn something new everyday.

Dub-I-Dub's background always sucked. I'm surprised of all the backgrounds they could have reused, they used what could possibly be the ugliest one.

Early days... Whats in common that they are NMR allright. (Thats why I keep thinking those BGs as scenes with 5thChara NMR.. X3)

I don't blame them. (AKA I'm okay with them, even though they are lazy or not.. I like 20, November's BG though becuase of the stars...)

I don't know about the rest, though.. ^^;

That's pretty funny! In addition, the background for "I believe in miracles" sucked, so I don't know why Konami decided to use it again!

Of course, there *is* the ultimate example of how lazy Konami is with regard to graphics:

no background pictures for SuperNOVA songs. at all.

and no movies for most of the new songs, as well.

"hey, we think a dancing character with a bunch of colored lines looks better"

my ass. it's called "meeting a lawsuit deadline"

Seriously I was thinking about it today. What if SuperNOVA PS2 comes out in 2 weeks, and we all buy it, tear off the shrinkwrap, pop open the instruction book on the way home and see this

STORY

Our favorite characters are trapped! Suspended inside of cubes and on platforms floating in space, Afro, Rage, Jenny, Emi and the others desperately need you! You must help them dance through over 65 songs--spanning more than 100 minutes of authentic dance music--or they will be lost forever, cast into an abyss of endless colored lines and 3-D shapes!

o that's why. i get it now

The depressing thing is, that sounds exactly like something that they would do to appeal to the lowest common denominator.

oh god, that's exactly what i would expect to see for a half-assed story to fill up space in a manual for a rhythm game.

hopefully they won't do that and something horrible like that wont grace my eyes upon opening up my copy.

A while ago, I wondered if the CS versions wouldn't surprise us by having full individual background videos again for each song a la EXTREME 2 as an alternative to the dancing characters. Would make sense since it's a small 70-80ish songs to worry about (minus those that actually do have bgs already or licensed music videos they could grab for cheap). I'm not holding out much hope for that anymore, though. In truth, I got used to the lack of individual backgrounds for most songs in SN, but it would have been nice to have at least kept the tradition of individual backdrops for each song as they begin and end.

Nah, probably not over 65 songs... they'll probably pull a DDR: Mario Mix story mode and make it so that the songs relate to the story somehow. Which will result in them adding that annoying shop unlock system again like they did in Extreme 2 to get the unlcked songs. Speaking of which, thats another similarity with lazyness... Both SuperNova, and Mario Mix don't have official background graphics, just banners. Same thing goes with DDR: Disney Mix.
