Default numbers acronyms and intros

I found this forum via google. glad to know there are people still playing these games. I'm usualy late in the game so figured it would be a thing of the past and wow was I wrong.

I appreciate all who have taken the time to do reviews also. The reason I've been searching is that I wanted to know what was available as far as dance pads, because the plastic one I got with DDR Extreme is causing me some issues.

I have some questions regarding pads, and the games in general.

From the reviews, and based on price, I am interested in buying the Cobalt Flux.
It is my understanding from what I've read here and there that the Red Octane Ignition is a good pad as far as non-metal goes.
The reason the CF is attractive is the following:
1) I'm currently 270lbs
2) I have worked up to playing about an hour a day (this is beginning to affect #1 on this list, which is the idea)
3) I'm having a lot of issues with clockwise drift as well as feeling the pad. I've gone as far as putting some sticky velcro squares on the arrows, but the plastic is wrinkled so bad I still can't feel the things.
4) I live in an older house, and as I have become more active with the game, I'm starting to feel the variations in the floor boards under the carpet (did I mention my house was *old*?)

From what I have read, the CF can handle the weight and use, and doesn't drift.

The questions:
-What changes should I expect when moving to something like the CF from a low end pad?
-Can I use the CF barefoot, or is it set up such that "feeling" my way around the pad won't be an issue?
-I have a PS2 and the only game I have is DDR Extreme, does it matter what other DDR games I buy, or are they all the same with different music?
-The "workout mode" in DDR Extreme is nice, but what sort of movement do they assume you are making?
-What on freakin' Earth are all the numbers and terms and acronyms I'm seeing in the threads here? What is the difference between 3.0 and 4.0? game type? Do I need to be concerned if the CF pad will work with all the games?

Sorry to be so long winded, but I've been on my own for a while here. I'm still searching the forum for threads on actual movement techniques if anyone has a link they are willing to throw me, it would be appreciated also.

Thanks.

1) Better Accuracy. Try not to stomp.
2) Yes, but its meant for shoes. CF's are flat anyway unless you invest in the Arcade mod, which you should.
3) Basically yes. Ex JP has the most.
4) Attempting to hit every arrow with your feet
5) what? CF should work for all DDR games, as they just replace the XO[]/\ keys, which you can use on a gamepad to play the game.

Thanks for the fast reply.

Regarding the Arcade mod... I haven't been in an arcade in probably 10 years I'll check the local mall, but I'm not sure they even have an arcade. (yay for small towns)
Unfortunately the wife is already wanting me to seek mental help for wanting to spend $300 on a dance pad. Not sure adding to that would result in a change from the plastic one I have now.
Anyhow, I can adapt with shoes. Thanks again.

Neural, check out our machine locations script:
http://www.bemanistyle.com/locations/

It should help you find all of your local machines.

Also, as far as the 'arcade mod' for the CF. All it is is plastic that elevates the non-arrow parts of the pad so that way you can feel where exactly on the pad your feet are. It is a deff MUST when already investing in a CF pad.

ROFLMAO. Guess I won't be visiting an arcade anytime soon. The closest one to me is 60 miles. LOL

I'll see if I can get the arcade mod as well.

Thanks again.

Try to get another game besides Extreme. I'm assuming you have the U.S. version. That version does not have dance play settings.
Basically, dance play settings, when turned "on" enable the corner buttons(non-arrows) to register as arrows. Which can be annoying and cause random misses.

Since you're getting a CF, you wont have to worry much about it though.

I got a semi-hard pad and that trips me up every time. (I hit the upper right corner, and it reads a down.)
