One fond memory I have for the first Hottest Party is looking forward to random challenges of a random COM to "tokyoEVOLVED". For shame, yes, I tried most of the challenges with a controller, but it was finally on foot that I manaed to scrap a B just about 1500 points higher than the COM. I didn't unlock tokyoEVOLVED, but it sure became a great feeling.
Another one I have is that rather than doing the actual stepping, I'd have one of my sisters do the dance-pad when they wanted, and I'd dance along with the dancers on stage. I enjoy every day that I dance like that, on HP1 or 2.

I asked my dad to buy me Extreme 2 bundle since he owed me a birthday present.....for 4 months. >_>
I loved the game and started to play at the arcade, but I remember playing DDR with my friends on a field trip and how everyone was happy playing and watching. I think we whored the usually whored songs by noobies though. XD P.S. I lol'd at a guy getting an A on Colors Oni for some reason. XD

I think my first Heavy song passes was either" Mobo Moga" or "www.blondegirl".
I also remember my first time playing Telephone Operator. I was with a friend, and we randomly picked it. We were surprised at how awesome it was.
And I remember Love Shine. Oh yeah, my first final stage that I ever passed.
And my first song to ever get me an Extra Stage was Dive, IIRC.
I can't remember the first song I ever passed though..... It might have been "I Do I Do I Do"............... Or "Crash"........... I hope it was the former....

Back when DDR was the latest craze in all of our young minds, it was the most addicting and captivating game out there, that most veterans can recall (this line makes no sense). So when was your first memory of DDR? I will describe the "Ages" to you.
All of the information provided is in my opinion--you can agree or disagree with whatever I have to say. Beginning Age: This is when DDR 1st Mix and 2nd Mix were out in the arcades, not much people really know about the whole dynamics of the game, and pretty much Butterfly and Boom Boom Dollar were the "word of mouth" songs that interested new players. Golden Age: This is the time line that includes DDR 3rd Mix, 4th Mix, and 5th Mix. Most veterans would probably agree that one or maybe all of their favorite mixes are here. This is when DDR was super popular, and everybody in the arcades would gather in a gigantic circle just to see anyone who plays (including Basic / Light). Most of the best Dancemania songs were in this timeline, and DDR was mainly for show rather than perfection. 3rd Mix was my favorite Mix of all time, and it was in this timeline. Advance Age: This is the time line, where DDR has finally evolved into the "next gen" in terms of of the "evolution to the revolution". DDR 6th Mix, 7th Mix, and EXTREME are part of this group. Here we see the high tech "song wheel" selection of the screen (though it was in 5th Mix as well), however; we finally see the inclusion of modifiers and yes, MAX 300. At this point in time, DDR is not a "secret game" anymore, and this is probably where we seen the most people who were playing this game. Future Age: This time includes the various versions of ITG, SuperNova, and SuperNova 2. The crowds have died down at this point in time, with an occasional gathering here and there (in terms of arcades). No more of that Dancemania stuff, lots of bemani crossovers, and a different tone in terms of gameplay. Veterans might be still drawn to the game, but only to check out what's new in the song list. Most players at this point are casual DDRers, and have moved on to other Bemani titles.
Whoops, that I have to say. I started playing in the Golden Age, when I use to go to arcades, and just play to gather up large crowds to impress them. My favorite mix is 3rd Mix, and I still think that is the best Mix ever released.
Edit: I overheard my friends in 6th grade talking about "Butterfly" and "Boom Boom Dollar" and I was like wtf is that. Then they told me it was some dancing game and then my brother started talking about the game to me. We tried to get a really old emulator of DDR on our cheapass computer called "Delight Delight Reduplication" and yeah it didn't work.
So then my brother got my PSX modded so that we can play import games and he also bought me like two DDR pads (in the middle of the pad it said Diet Diet Revolution). Then I started playing DDR 3rd Mix starting with the lesson mode, and eventually End of the Century was my first song I attempted. I could remember Dam Dariram being like the first song I failed. With more practice, DDR became very fun and I started going to the arcades and stuff. The story goes on and on...
Edit #2
1. I remember playing DDR so much, that my feat would hurt.
2. Marching steps were the most difficult steps to master. In the Navy was a great way to teach me how to march.
3. I challenged my enemy in a game of DDR, and we became friends after in 7th grade.
4. I remembered I order two DDR pads online, and I tried using some scissors to cut the outer box open, but I went to fast and it cut my arm.
5. I was the DDR teacher at the time, was training two friends how to play DDR. Eventually DDR became "gay" for them.
6. Come to think about it, DDR reunited me and my other friend. I had stopped talking to a friend because we both went separate ways in terms of friends, but his sister bought DDR, so then I went over to his house to play .59 on Konamix.
7. I remember going to the Glendale Mall, and while walking up the stairs to get the arcade machine, my heart would race with excitement, my body will sweat, and my legs will start to shake...the anticipation to play DDR 4th Mix was soooo amazing.
8. I remember riding my bike to Chinatown at 11pm which was probably 7 miles away, just so that I could go to the local DDR Extreme Machine to destroy it. I had a backpack full of scissors and a hammer with me so I can dismantle the DDR machine. The reason why I was up so late because I was jealous of my friend (the enemy mentioned above) who knocked me out of the #1 position for the Nonstop course. So I got the scissors and cut the connection between the pads and I tried smashing the screen with the hammer but I figured it would be too loud and plus there were security folks roaming around. At the end I just took the power cord from the machine so that it will be out of commission. Everything went well, but then the machine got fixed and my enemy friend was #1 again. Good times.

Not to mention you sound like a total sore looser because some other guy took your place as first. Instead you should have just.........eh fuck it, you'll still be a dumb fuck for doing that anyways so whatever.

Actually I remember freaking out when I got my first perfect... XP Not to mention a AAA on that game.
Besides that, it was played 3rd ko2 in an arcade like every week. That's also when I started to form an actually song list that I'd play every time. :P And that's when I started to like Zukins because of Black-Zukin. Also Hogism is awesome. X3

And whenever it was full and glowing, it would look like the limit break bar from the Final Fantasy games, so my friend and I would always go "Limit break!" and try to play harder.
We were such dorks.

A bunch of the people of the field trip group were watching and playing the machine. I can't forget my first successful execution of a circular step pattern on Healing Vision Angelic Mix (Light), and the people were like "Whoa!". Also, I "saved" the person who was also playing alongside of me, which I think he was playing on Standard or Heavy (I don't remember), by clearing the song because it wasn't the final stage. This moment made me very happy. | |
