Exclamation Pluto Relinquish and Konami's new challenge: Difficulty

So I wanted to know how you feel about Konami's sudden interest to want to make more "ITG" style songs in terms of difficulty. I know DDRX was Konami's foray into doing by revamping the feet system and reclassifying songs. Songs like Pluto Relinquish with very enticing, stoic piano melodies mixed with 400 BPM 8th note turns really test a persons stamina and endurance. How do you feel about this "new" direction in DDR game play?

I don't think you could consider PRO to be ITG-style or the result of a new direction in DDR. Since the tempo for the boss songs increased by about 10-20 BPM per release from MAX to EXTREME, we'd probably be at around PRO's level right now if Konami kept making arcade releases in the years that they took a break.

Anyway, I think this ""new" direction" is simply what should've been expected after the series restarted. Did anyone think that the boss songs in SN1 should've been at TLoM's difficulty or lower? Granted, the boss songs in SN1 were too hard, but still.

I wouldn't say >9000 bpm changes is ITG style. ITG style is more 200bpm 16th streams, disregarding the Vertex's.

It would be boring to have boss songs get easier. To make the boss songs harder, they use gimmicks like having speedups to 800 bpm, stops (a la Chaos), more runs, etc.

Remember when Max300 was new? It was nothing anybody had seen before because here was a song clocking in at 300 BPM with the equivalent of 16th note runs galore, not to mention the pause in the middle to throw you off guard. People have gotten used to this song to the point where it is not hard to some players, as well as the other boss songs, so of course the DDR step chart creators are going to step it up a notch in difficulty and if need be, throw in more gimmicks.

It would be nice if the series as a whole got harder. The nice thing about ITG's difficulty was that they really filled out the range. In my opinion, Konami focuses too much on what would have been considered 7's, throws in a few 8's and 9's, and then goes crazy with the boss songs. If they would focus on giving existing songs challenge charts ala DoLL or the S-Maniacs from 4th+, it wouldn't seem so unbalanced.
