Default Progressive scan in DDR X (US)

So I found out in a roundabout way that DDR X will run in progressive-scan if you hold the triangle and X buttons while the game is starting up.

This is kind of dumb, since most dance pads don't have a triangle button. So you have to plug in a DualShock while the game is starting up, and then unplug it and plug in a dance mat. (I guess if you were doing single-player, you could keep a DualShock in the P2 slot, but I always do versus mode with my 6-year-old, who occasionally beats me.)

Anyhow ... it wouldn't be so bad if the game would remember progressive mode when you save and default to this next time you start up.

Or ideally, there should be a menu option for 480p mode - like Rock Band has. Feature request for DDR XI (if such a thing is actually released)?

Progressive scan is nice if you have an HDTV, because it eliminates the lag and artifacts caused by the TV's deinterlacing engine.

I don't believe it is.

OP: Great find by the way.

I'm fairly certain it's not in the manual - I looked.

I just saw DDR X in Wikipedia's "List of PlayStation 2 games with HD support" and then followed the external link to High Definition Game Database to figure out how to enable it.

No other PS2 DDR games are listed as supporting progressive scan, BTW.

Yes, I tired it myself.

al2k4 mentioned it is also on SN2 JP (and likely it will be on X JP)
But it was NOT on SN2 US.

Is it on DSSN2? I have it and could try it, but is there any way to switch back to the default mode, and how will I know if it does switch into progressive scan?

Yeah, this isn't really a DDR thing, some other games you can do this as well. Its understandable why the PS2 does it this way though.

It will prompt you to change it, and then (much like on a PC) will allow you to see it in a "test" and double confirm it. It will automatically revert if you don't choose in 10 seconds.

How do you take advantage of progressive scan? Does it work with the red, yellow, and white cable or do you need the composite cable?

Need a composite, and of course a TV with those inputs.

Does progresive scan make the picture native 16:9 image or does it leave it as standard 4:3? I've known about PS being available in this mix, but haven't had the opportunity to check it out.

Ok, to be specific you need the RGB component cables. (YPbPr)
