Total Tokens: 16,471.23 Donate Tokens | Red Octane Good for me? I've been using the standard pad that came in my DDR Extreme 2 bundle since Mid 06' and I've kind of crappily kept it up until now that I'm getting into DDR again (most likely permanently).
I've been getting pissed off at it to a bipolar extent everyday since loads of times I'll hit a button and it will just Boo! me right off when it should say Great/Perfect/Marvelous.
When I first got it I just started DDR and now I'm at 7-10 footer songs and I really want to do good on them without getting killed because of my crappy pad. (me wants me Sakura: RevenG )
I noticed the back button is almost completely to its limit and the edges of the pad are starting to rip and tear off pieces.
My birthday is next Thursday and I wanted to order a Red Octane Ignition pad 3.0 for it with a copy of Extreme. (think it was a special offer limited time bundle)
Is RO really the best for a foam pad that I can trust?
I need an answer from someone who has one before tomorrow because that's when my stepdad plans on ordering it. T_T
I want to wait until I can get a job (still 14 :P...15 next week ) to spend money on a Blueshark because I heard it was the best metal for home.
Can someone give me some good input on if RO Ignition is good for me? (its $105 w/ shipping and game)

That's a good deal, but Extreme sucks.
But yeah, you're going to want to get an Ignition anyway.
IMO SuperNOVA 1 is the best console release for semi-new players.
If you aren't playing above 8's though you don't really need a better pad than a standard Soft pad.
If you want a cheap replacement: In The Groove Official Dance Pad (Clearance)
Those seem to be out of stock, call em, if not, try finding onbe, they're between the standard pad and an Ignition.

2nd you will probably ruin that pad too, just go with a metal one, it does not cost much more, and lasts almost forever.
also I have think this has eben answered a few hundred times now, for people just like you.

Total Tokens: 1,097.36 Donate Tokens | my first RO Ignition 2.0 lasted about a year and a half (it started fucking up when ITGPS2 came out and i played 11+es on it)
my second one i got a year after the first, and it lasted a month without fucking up, but it would only do it intermittently. It would go crazy, then I would stop playing for a day or two, come back, and it would work fine. At some point it stopped working completely too, not long after the first.
I ended up modding the second one by replacing the foam that holds separates the circuit and it worked like a charm for the few days that I was motivated to play on it. Unfortunately, I had become a mostly arcade player that uses the bar most of the time, and as such, my play style had adapted and didn't work as well as it used to, plus I hated the feel much more than I remember before.
I still got some very good scores on it after modding it. The best was this:
(Legend of Max AAA if it isn't obvious)
tl;dr, RO Ignition pads can work well for a while. If they stop working, it is possible to mod them and make them work like new again.

Omg you remember that? Now I whore Sakura to death, but I liked Miracle Moon, Xepher, Paranoia Survivor 270, and Afronova. I realised after playing Love Love Shine about 30 times that there were better songs...
@AceJay:
Thanks for the help, I wanted to get the one with Extreme because it had A by d.j.amuro on it and Paranoia Eternal. I loved those two songs on stepmania. I just think IMO that Stepmania isn't as good as the actual games.
@ΩOMEGAΩ:
I was out today because I needed a break. (my school beats you down with work) I also, felt annoyed but I can see what you mean so I'm sorry for my annoying second post.
Also, I probably won't ruin if I'm able to stay on this one without completely crapping it out for almost 2 years.
@DAVE101:
I think that one is just for 2.0 and I'm buying 3.0 but I guess I'm fine with RO.
@MdX MaxX:
Well that's nice to hear so thank you for helping on personal experience. ^^
@Kalek:
I'm not really good at modding things myself but I guess I can after being able to repair a ps1 controller that was mostly broken with my screwdriver and able to get at least a month more out of it. That will be in the future I guess if I ever think about modding it. I heard putting a board between the foam layers works?

I broke like 3 ignitions, and just got my money back after some time.

it was in my living room on my parents' tv, but my parents' tv is very similar to jamis' tv (ours is a bit bigger and i think shaped slightly differently due to the size, but from what i've seen, they're otherwise the same) Quote:

I heard putting a board between the foam layers works? | a board wouldn't work, since it needs to be able to compress and allow the circuit to complete (you're replacing the foam that separates the ground and button circuitry to allow the button to work correctly)
you may be thinking of the mod where you replace the dense foam insert with a board, which may also help, but i haven't tried it

It still works like a charm, aside from the zipper breaking (Or melting, i don't know which) off, at which point I ended up just getting some velcro strips and placing them inbetween the foam inserts and the two sides of the pad itself. Since that, i've been playing better.
If you can though, just get a Metal one.
Oh, I also got the 3.0 because of its USB support, works perfectly in SM if you haven't read that around here.
