It seems like everone and their grandma hates the Dancers, for some strange reason. WHAT IS THIS "REASON"? To me, the Dancers are just another part of the BG, and aren't any different from the BG videos themselves. They're not any more distracting than the BG videos to me. Why are they bad to everyone else?

Most of today's generation of DDR players started with DDR Extreme(ARC). Of course, that didnt have characters..thus when these people buy the console versions after playing Extreme, they see something in the background they are not used to and hate it instantly.
I believe if Konami kept the characters on every DDR game, there would be less haters. However I heard when they first made DDR MAX(ARC) they had problems mixing characters with the new BG videos causing it to crash. Well since they worked very hard on those BG videos, its no surprise they ditched them for awhile. But remember, the characters returned to the console versions and SuperNova(ARC) by request of fans.
I myself started with the old 1st mix, so I've always loved the characters and I even love them more than the seizure inducing BG Videos. So I was jumping with joy when most of the songs on SuperNOva were replaced with a stage instead. Hmm..easy on the eyes + less time to make = stages>BG videos, IMO.
What I find most funny is how people say the characters are distracting yet they are okay with the flashy BG videos. It really doesn't make sense. Heh, if it were up to me I would put 10 characters at once on screen to mess with their heads.
I will say one thing, if Konami ever ditches the characters again, I'll quit DDR. For some reason, I can't play a game without characters of some kind. I wont even touch DDRMAX(U.S.) anymore. Heck, I bought a xbox just because I heard Charmy was going to be on Ultramix 4. Yeah, what seperates me from most DDR players is that I'm a total DDR Charanut. I even know most of their backhistory.
Okay, i'll shut up now. | |

2. They imply that DDR is a dance by stomping on arrows AND the character dances on screen.

But people hate on everything and there is really nothing that you can do about it. They dont get in the way the arrows so some should just not complain, and if they do. Go back to DDRMAX-EXTREME

One problem for 4th and below is when your gauge was maxed they started flashing like which caused mild epilepsying. I'm just a little dissapointed with thier choises on SN comeon look at Party Collection. Idk the bkg videos and the random spastic funkadelic ifuturelistic stages they have now are just as random as the vids in max and what not so I don't see a problem with the vids or the dancers. But yeah I wish they had a turn on/off bkg/dancer option so people don't have to complain. Works for the CS why not the AC?

Videos can be really distracting. Heck, I remember I couldn't play Peace (^^)v for the longest time because I kept getting distracted by the video - same with Xepher. Either way, the focus should be on the arrows and music, right?

If they brought back BGAs, that would be cool. Especially if they made more high quality ones, like IIDX has.

They help convey the song more; you can put so much more into a video than a character. LOVE IS ORANGE tells a hilarious story, I feel like there's a story behind those songs with the unique videos, I find them very entertaining. =P
And so do the people I know who like to watch; they get very, very, very sick of watching the same dancers on the same stages for almost every song. Videos are more interesting. I don't care if I can watch Emi dance to I'll Make Love To You or RED ZONE; two completely different songs that will get the same dance. I just want something unique for the songs. If the characters had unique routines (ParaParalol) to every song, I'd like that too. As it stands, videos are a great way of adding a unique touch to a song.
