Supernova Arcade Courses..?

Hi everyone (Sorry if this question seems nooby..

)
You know those Boss Rushes (1-4) in the Supernova Courses? I was watching youtube videos of those (theres only like.. 3..). Anyway, all 3 of them seem to be using battery as their life meter.. I was wondering, are those mods? Or do you actually have to play Supernova courses with battery X.x)

For the battery part, the person was playing an ONI course, and the battery isn't a mod, it's basically the life you have in the course, and if you get a good or lower, the battery will drop until you lose all of your life.

That's how Oni courses have always worked. You get 3 lives at the beginning of the course, and after each song you gain back a set number of lives (anywhere from 0 to 3). If you run of lives and then get another non-combo (Good, Boo/Almost, or Miss/Boo) or get an N.G. on a freeze arrow, you fail the course.
