I'm interested to see what you come up with for this DJ Dao. I'm sure it will be high quality and well made. I don't really have any suggestions that others have not already given.

I'm stating the obvious and there's not really anything that can be done about it, but shipping metal pads (with or without a bar) will be ridiculously expensive. Even if the price point of the pads is competitive as compared to other pads commercially available, the shipping costs may be as much as the cost of the pads themselves.

The arcade sensors and bar idea yes, as they always tend to be unfortunately. That "standard" and "premium" bar idea is one I absolutely agree with though, and from what I understand, DJ Dao always strives for quality, so whatever they come up with I'm sure it will be impressive.

Like this:

But just a single pad, and it could probably be thinner to save costs on shipping, etc.

Note the height of the panels in relation to the metal around it, and the sensor set up.

Just make it EXACTLY like the arcade. Height, width, length... Everything! Probably a good idea to sell Two different types of dance pads. DDR & Pump it up?

I can only imagine the cost of the final product if we make it EXACTLY like the arcade pads guys...

How about make the pads customizable to our liking on your site if possible? Kind of like what you guys did with your beatmania turntables if that makes sense. Or make a few different versions at different costs also like what you did with the beatmania turntables.

Also throw in customizable arrows, and lighting as well. I would love to have the DDR X arrow panels on mine, while others prefer the old style DDR arrows, or in the groove arrows. I would throw a few extra bucks for that.

oh wow i just stumbled upon this thread, but id be so excited to see an arcade replica of a metal pad!! i remember seeing a konami one a loooong time ago, but they were like 1800, and i only saw a few.

i FULLY support to have a pad replica of the ITG2 dedicab. all the way down to the thickness and quality. idc how much this thing would cost i would totally buy it. the ONLY reason i dont play ITG at home is because i dont like any of the pads out there.

soft pads just SUCK, as im sure everyone can agree, and all the metal pads feel weird.

cobalt flux pads were completely flat, so you couldnt feel where you were. their add on to make the arrows recessed was too steep. hitting the arrows, the arrow didnt deepin at all, so you couldnt tell if you actually hit it.

redoctanes looked ok, but they feel strange. it feels like a cheaper build. ive never tried anything else because i cant find valid feedback on if they are worth it.

ive seen pads out on the interwebz for $1900, yet no videos of someone trying one. also i saw that the non-arrow panels were actually recessed rather than the arrows :/.

the ONLY pad i feel comfortable playing on is an ITG2 dedicab pad. the only thing ive done, is mod the arrows so their not as recessed.

all-in-all, like everyone is saying, MAKE AN EXACT REPLICA OF THE ITG2 DEDICAB PAD. yeah, make 2 versions, one like a lesser quality perhaps, for the beginners. that they arent going to be rough on it. maybe even throw a soft pad in there.

if you can make a soft pad thats not going to slide you all over the room when u play, you'll win there alone.

lastly, alongside with making an exact replica, that does also mean to include the corresponding bar. down to the same height. you could maybe tweak the design of the "R" shape for the bar. maybe be creative, add more designs or more 'bar' to add on weight.

i will try to keep an eye on this thread. this would open back up my world of hardcore play on openITG. please do this!! i dont have arrow tattoos for nothin xD

edit: check it, r21freak.com is an active forum dedicated to new stepcharts for songs all the time. you should post this over there, they would go WILD!! also Aaron in Japan forums. very popular ddr/itg community sites.

Definitely less than $800 if DJ Dao is nice.

If you do make these with a bar, PLEASE make the bar adjustable +/- 4 inches. I am 6'-7" and I don't use the bar because I cannot play properly on it. I might be an extreme case, but I'm positive many people would appreciate a bar that could be adjusted to fit their stature.

I imagine it would be a very simple design not unlike an expanding pool skimmer pole which would "click" into a locked position at 1 inch intervals. There's probably a lot of other methods for an adjustable bar that would also work. Perhaps you could even manufacture aftermarket bars that one could install onto a real arcade machine. I know I'd put adjustable bars onto my dedicab in a heartbeat!

Lol, calm down. It probably won't come out for months.

I think Dao knows how to go about making an ASC. He may not know the specifics of DDR, but he should be very good at designing, testing, and improving whatever controller he does decide to make. Wait patiently, 'cause if he's gonna make one it will be available eventually.

Yeah. Probably should wait 'til the 2nd generation comes out. Like how the PE was? Then PEE? There probably will be arrow key missfires on the pad or something.

you're going to wait until the second generation because one type of input on one controller misfired at worst occasionally? i've played on multiple old PEs and i've had a TT misfire only once or twice.

nevermind that the pop'n and dm controllers were both totally fine.

The turntable electronics are a lot more complicated then a simple arrow panel and sensors. I'm sure there won't be any issue in this regard. Again, the problem is going to be the shipping cost.
