Default In what ways are Japanese versions of DDR different than US versions?

I'm not sure if this has been answered yet (I am sorry if it has) but I was looking through JPN and US versions of DDR and the cases for the games look like they have a lot more anime in the JPN versions.

For example, DDR X- JPN:http://image1.play-asia.com/350/83/pa.145857.1.jpg
US:Pictures for Dance Dance Revolution X (PS2) - Play-Asia.com

and DDR Extreme- JPN: http://image1.play-asia.com/350/PA.03223.007.jpg
US: http://image4.play-asia.com/640/6k/pa.118350.2.jpg

If you have tried the Japan versions are the animations in the game and the game play itself more revolved around anime?

I am just wondering because I love anime and if there is generally more anime inspired things in the Japanese versions I would import them.

Anyways, thank you for reading.

The differences lie in the respective songlists. Now of course, the core songlist is there but sometimes, they add extra songs (bonus songs as you call them) which differ from each version.

Also, in other cases, some times the features may be different (or that there may be a lack of it). In the case of DDR X for the PS2, the US version I think lacks the step edit feature (I'm not sure of it though).

So yeah, I hope that answers a part of your question

No, it has the edit feature. What it doesn't have is the ability to export that data onto a USB drive.

Japanese versions are always better. Yes I think Strike is better than Extreme 2.

In almost every way regarding the songlist, the JP songlists put the US ones to shame.

One clear example of differences between regions is DDR Extreme.
The japanese version is almost exactly like the arcade version in appearance and songlist (if I remember well, it's one of the PS2 DDRs that has the biggest amount of songs). The US version is completely different, starting from the theme, taken from DDR Festival.

All you need to know is Konami's been short changing us for a while, since we know it's possible when DDREXJP came out you can fit 110 songs on a game, which still maks it the best home version to date.

They're both good, but instead of reviving songs, Japan decided to also "catch up" on songs that THEY don't have, and since it happened to be Ultramix2 KOs and Crossovers, it turned out pretty well!.

Most Japanese DDR games have a far superior songlist. (I say most because I think the US DDRMAX is better than the JAP one). For instance the Jap DDRMAX2 has all the challenge songs along with most of their respective normal versions. DDRExtreme JAP also has about 110 songs, including all the new arcade songs (except for senorita) and a whole bunch of revivals from 1st mix up.

Yeah, very shameful for the US home editions to got the songlists with sometimes a sleep-inducing steps or sometimes way too easy steps that can be easier to earn AAA...

Especially in DDR X, the color combos do put Japan more advantage than US... (I mean if the combo judgment is a Great, the color of the combo number turns green)

Also agreeing on JP versions are better in terms of songlists.
(Although Konoko's vid was included in SN2 US but it's offsync)
Full Combo Splash. 'Nuff Said.

The Color Combos(Very good feature of DDR indeed to indicate if ypu've earned a marvelous, perfect, or great)
Full Combo Splash.

These feature puts the US Version down the drain.

The only US Version DDR that I like so much is DDRMAX

My favorite U.S mix is MAX2.

I mostly play 1st/3rd/Extra Mix/MAX/MAX2/Extreme mixes nowadays though - all JP.

The thing about MAX US I liked over MAXJP was the existence of ONI mode, but the JP version I liked for the near-exact port from Arcade in terms of songlist.
