Default Why is Max 300 such a classic?

On a lot of machines, whether Extreme, Supernova, or Supernova 2, I always, always see Max 300 on the top 10 most played. Whenever I see someone play a 10, 9 times out of 10 it's Max 300. How has this song remained so popular?

(to a lesser extent, HVAM as well)

It's the easiest "legitimate" 10, which excludes bag and Sakura.

I'd say probably because it was the first song on DDR that really made people shit their pants. :P

Well I play it to warm up, and the stepchart is pretty fun too.

Because it's the best chart in DDR.

Because it is a step-up for higher level play. Even Yasu AAA'ed it 300 times years ago! I, for myself, have passed that only once since my stamina's crappy.

Its a "benchmark" 10 of sorts, same could be said of HVAM imo, it is the standard of what a 10 should be like HVAM is indicative of a 9 (that said, wtf happened with Venus, konami?)

HVAM is quite an extreme 9 really.

It's the only Max I can pass on Heavy as well as it being part of the only two lvl 10 songs that I can pass on this game (Sakura Heavy included)

It was the first Extra Stage, the first 10, and was pretty much the big thing about DDR Max, which was itself a pretty big thing when it hit. It represents a DDR Milestone, though I don't know how many people that still play were there to remember it.

It's also a really good song for what it's meant to be (highly energetic and challenging DDR music) and has great steps.

In my experience, there's always been heavy debate about HVAM being a 10 ever since MAX and the release of MAX 300. Almost the same for SO DEEP as well but for SO DEEP there's just a matter of figuring out its pattern and then it's easy shit. I still think HVAM is that borderline, rights-of-passage cata that is necessary to beat with an A or greater before you would attempt some of the tougher 10s that now exist.

Course, back before things changed, that was pushing bag or SAKURA on someone. :P

Anyways, MAX 300 is just one of the better icons of DDR alongside of PSM, in my opinion. That doesn't necessarily mean they're the best charts or songs or whatever but most people that've played DDR over the years (perhaps all of them) are usually not ones that are gonna tear themselves away from the classics especially with some of the crap charts that have been coming down the pipes as of late.
