Marketplace Rating: 1 | Is Workout/Diet Mode Accurate? I'm just wondering how accurate workout/diet mode is.
Yesterday, I played a total of 1 hour and 15 minutes (gameplay time) on my Extreme JP for a total of 50 stages. The songs were partially in order and I think it averaged about 25-30 calories burned per song. In the end, I was tired as hell and burned 1493 calories. I'm wondering if that was right or not? (Btw I played mostly 7-9 footers with the occasional Sakura and 5th footer)

Marketplace Rating: 1 | I wonder if a heart monitor will help see if it is accurate?

Marketplace Rating: 0 | A better way to keep accuracy is take your heart rate after every 3 songs and write it down. Once you're done, do an average of those heart rates and use it in this formula
Men: C/min = (-55.0969 + 0.6309 x HR + 0.1988 x weight + 0.2017 x age) / 4.184
Women: C/min = (-20.4022 + 0.4472 x HR - 0.1263 x weight + 0.074 x age) / 4.184
Where HR = heart rate in BPM
weight = weight in kilograms
age = duh
This is a more accurate (though still not exact, more of a roundabout) way to figure out calories burned. You don't burn the same amount of calories for each step like DDR will assume. Example, a cross over will burn more calories. But your heart rate will reflect it and can be used instead.

Most of the time, it's definitely off because I notice some double stepping as I play.

P.S. I did that calories burned per minute thing that dark posted and it actually gave me a higher calorie number then what I get doing DDR in that amount of time. Oo

Try doing only light mode songs or beginner mode songs, I bet that your calories burned by the equation I posted will be less than what DDR tells you. I know light mode used to break a sweat for me when I first started, now I can do light mode and almost fall asleep.
Oh and I can't be 100% sure of this, but I'm willing to wager that the game doesn't give higher calorie burns per step for doubles mode and there's no denying that doubles mode can be much more tiresome than singles.

Marketplace Rating: 1 | I'm wondering what would be a better workout plan? Would it be better to change my goal from 1000 calories to an hour and 10 minutes of gameplay?

You could say the same about those machines at the gym that tell you how many calories you've burned. You may even burn a little bit more because your heart is still pumping away between songs, plus the energy you use to select a song. IIRC, the Ultramixes were the only ones that actually monitored this part too. I don't know if the newer DDRs do this as well.

Play a few songs for warm up then see where your heart rate is after a round. If it's lower than before, play harder songs to bring it up. If it's getting TOO high (180bpm) play some easier songs to bring it back down.
If you don't want to go into that much detail, then time based is definitely better than calorie based. You can burn the calorie goal just by playing high step count songs. It's just like running. Running a mile doesn't benefit you if you run it in 10 minutes. It's better to take a 30 minute run, however far that is, than to set a distance goal, because as you get better, the distance will get easier and easier. Playing for an hour will only get easier if you play easier songs. I generally play 2 hours for my work out, while using my last game to do stuff like HVAM, Paranoia Survivor and exotic ethnic.

I usually play songs in order in my games and skip a few. Then, when I get tired, I'll play the next 6-7 footer before I play more 8-9 footers. I usually go moderately because it keeps my endurance up.
Here's a problem though....
If I do an hour of gameplay, it will count for easy and difficult songs. Yet if I do calories burned, I'll always have to do a certain amount. I guess you can't have both ways, so I'm grateful that you can see the total time played in games like Extreme.
