Default DDR/Pump/nSMB/PuzzleFighter tournament in CO Springs

Just wanted to post this here for any of you guys who don't check DDRFreak. This is just copy and paste really, but I'll be sure to edit this as any information changes come along.

LOCATION:
Mr. Biggs FFC
5825 Mark Dabling
Colorado Springs, CO 80919
719-955-0227

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DDDR (Dancing Dino Dash Revolution) (yeah I know dumb name) EXTREME

Slightly Accurate Timeline:

10am: Registration/Hanging Out Begins
12pm: Qualification (DDR/Skeeball)
1:00pm: Not as Advanced Bracket
4:30pm: Advanced Bracket

The only thing completely set about this is that the tournament WILL start at 1 p.m., so don't be late thankyou. Dino Dash playing will be involved, and even though it is a very short game, it will still increase the tournament length somewhat. However, there are other factors of this tourny that will make some parts shorter than average, so don't worry about not getting home on time to study the next day for exams or whatever.

Registration:
Entry fee will be $7. I WAS going to get Mr.Biggs himself to handle registration signups and money, but who knows where his dirty fingers have been! So that's a no go on the muttman.

Qualification:
After realizing that I couldn't completely eliminate DDR skill from determining the victor, I've decided that the qualifier will consist of playing one DDR song to determine your bracket, and then one round of skeeball. The DDR song will probably be annoyingly high pitched with stupid mods and everyone will hate it, but it's sole purpose is to either place you in the not-as-advanced or advanced bracket. Upon arrival in your bracket, one round of skeeball will be played to determine your seed. If there is a tie in the skeeball qualifier, the winner will be determined by whoever had more perfects in the DDR qualifier.

Anyone trying to sandbag will be allowed to continue sandbagging, but not until after spending 10 minutes alone with Mr. Biggs in a dark room. Mr. Biggs will then steal all your tickets and shoot you with laser eyes, and you will be rendered unable to play DDR with any decent amount of skill and thus lose your first two rounds horribly. Either all that or disqualification, you know, whatever. So it's probably not a good idea to sandbag either way.

Both divisions of DDR will run with the same rules in effect, but not much will be revealed up front. The main reason for this is that knowing the gimmicks of the tournament will give a rather unfair advantage to those with plenty of free time to practice vs. those who don't.

Gameplay:

In this tournament I am adding a few new major twists to competition to be declared here but not explained. Oh, the mystery!

All four rounds (1st round, quarters, semis, AND FINALS) will consist of playing a short game of Dino Dash, and then two songs chosen by either a song generator program, or possibly chosen by the player depending on the Dino Dash results.

The first and third rounds will be special rounds, with special rules to be announced after qualifiers. Winners of special rounds will be determined first by letter grade, then by number of perfects, then greats, etc. For the quarterfinals and the finals, winners will be determined first by perfects, then by letter grade, THEN greats etc. This is meant to reward players who are more able to keep the beat despite various... distractions.

All four rounds will be unique with gameplay changes to be determined by the outcome of Dino Dash.

Prizes Include:
Planning. I've submitted sponsor emails to two companies so far, and also prizes will include baked goods and cash. Steve, are you able to talk to Roger from the anime shop for me to see if he has any extra stuff for sponsorship? Or at least his contact info please... =)

edit: I forgot to mention that since it is split into two brackets, prizes will be back to the usual top 3 format.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

PUMP IT UP: ZERO

This is just a copy and paste of Spork's rules that BSE used for RitR 2. I don't want to just assume that BSE will be running the tournament, but from his comments it seemed like he was eager to run it due from his "And I'll be making a couple of minor changes to the RitR 2 Pump format" comment. I don't mind running it myself, but Landon please let me know if you don't mind running the Pump tournament and if you can get any pump stuff for prizes. Sorry, I didn't mean to put you on the spot without asking!

Timeline:
10am: Registration Begins
12pm: Qualification
1:30pm: Hard Division
5pm: Crazy Division

Registration:
All entrants will be paying an entry fee of $7 to enter. After you give us basic information, such as your name/alias, and your phone number in case we need to reach you, we will be starting the qualification round, to determine where you belong in the tournament!

Qualification:
All entrants will be participating in a qualifying song. This is to determine which division you belong in, and will allow us to seed you accordingly. The top 1/2 of the entrants will be competing in Crazy, while the bottom 1/2 will be in Hard.
If you are caught Sandbagging, you will instantly be disqualified from the Tourney. Sandbagging is playing on a level lower than your own just to give yourself a better chance to win.

Hard Division

After a deciding coin flip to decide who gets which side of the pad, both contestants will play three songs RANDOMLY selected via another hat on hard difficulty.
Due to issues with the scoring on Pump Zero, we will not be going by score! Instead, whoever has the most perfects wins. Each round will be played in a 2 out of 3 manner.
Rounds will commence in basic Double Elimination Mode until two contestants are left, in which case both contestants will play all three songs until the winner of the Division is decided. Prizes will be awarded immediately after division ends.
In this Division, Bar usage IS ALLOWED!

Crazy Division

After a deciding coin flip to decide who gets which side of the pad, both contestants will play three songs RANDOMLY selected via another hat on CRAZY difficulty.
Due to issues with the scoring on Pump Zero, we will not be going by score! Instead, whoever has the most perfects wins. Each round will be played in a 2 out of 3 manner.
Rounds will commence in basic Double Elimination Mode until two contestants are left, in which case both contestants will play all three songs ON NIGHTMARE until the winner of the Division is decided. Prizes will awarded immediately after division ends.
In this Division, Bar Usage IS ALLOWED!

Prizes include: ???
To be determined

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SUPER PUZZLE FIGHTER 2 TURBO

This will be the PlayStation1 version, and will be held after the DDR Advanced Bracket is over. A small signup with $2 entry fee seems fair. In the single-elimination bracket, the first player to TWO wins will move on to the next round. If the options doesn't allow you to set to two wins (I am unsure), then it will be three wins. Third place will recieve the entry fee back, and second/first place will recieve 30%/70% of the prize money.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

NEW SUPER MARIO BROTHERS (Everyone bring your charged DSes with nSMB!)

To be held as soon as Puzzle Fighter is over. In this single-elimination bracket, the first player to get 3 wins (5-star game) will move on. Another $2 entry fee, and the prizes will be the same as in Puzzle Fighter.

Sorry, but it's doubtful we'll have time for MORE TOURNAMENTS after all this! =) This will be plenty for one day, trust me, lol haha.

Oh, and please help clean up after the tournament is over! It is my responsibility to not piss off THE MAN, meaning a clean tournament area after we're done. Aaaand I'll be really tired by the end of the day 'cause I'm a wuss, so I appreciate any help I can get. Thanks all. =D

Anything I left out? Questions, comments, let me know please. This is my first tournament, but I want it to be great.
